I assume you are dealing with a 1/25 with "piano" hinges. While I have not tried it myself, there is a neat youtube by a kid using thread to cut out doors on 1/25 cars. It really worked well (for him) and am eager to try it. There is aftermarket makers for 1/25 piano hinge assuming you want to go back with it. I have never found any piano hinge small enough in hobby and craft stores for that scale. Some small plastic tubing and brass rod will allow you to create something sturdy, decent, and potentially wild in terms of how/where it opens if you are content with a "2 hinge" system like most cars. Just becomes a lesson in geometry more more than anything.
