You have GOT to check this out..!! Do you think this guy is talented or what...!?!?!?!?

This is interesting even for the non-mechanically inclined.

A guy built this 12 cylinder diesel engine that runs and fits in the palm of a hand.

Don't know if he was an engineer or machinist or just a very talented hobbyist, but it took him over 2,000 hours

from conception to finished product.

Counting his labor and material its cost is just over $100,000.00 and all that for a conversation piece.

I think it belongs in a museum for unusual accomplishments.

This guy made everything at home on his lathe and drill press.

It took 1220 hours just to make the 261 pieces: 12 individual cylinder heads, tiny rods and pistons, dual "underhead" cams with pushrods to rockers in the heads. And he did the break-in runs using an electric drill driving the crankshaft.

Even if you're not an engineer you should enjoy watching this video.

While this is a masterpiece of art, craftsmanship, and engineering, I think the term "runs" is a little misleading. I would bet my life that this is running on compressed air, not fuel. So to me it functions, but doesn't run.

With that said, this gentleman has more talent in the dirt under his fingernail than I have in my whole big arse body!

David G., you're right, it functions. He hooks it up to a power drill. I mis-stated by saying "It works"...... although, it does "work", it just doesn't "run", like on fuel... Sorry to mislead you.

No problem Rich. That video is pretty old and when it first came out, everyone that knows I'm into models was telling me about it and they were all a little bummed when I told them it couldn't run as there were no injectors or glow plugs.

I do believe it runs on compressed air not a drill, but I'm not certain. I think the hose you see feeding into the aircleaner provides the air that makes it run.

Regardless of that, it's a masterpiece and I for one am quite envious of his skills.

.2nd most incredible model I've seen. There's a whole Ferrari out there on YouTube(?) some maniac built years back.. With a running fuel engine.. Yes, it snarls just like the real thing, and about 1/8 scale IIRC.

A.M.S. -squared, gawd.

Yeah, that's it.. Words just fail me... Being a proud owner of several Moto Guzzi motorcycles, I can really dig it when the Italian engineer that built that Ferrari replica says, "It's music"..

The world's a better place due to Master Craftsmen and Craftswomen like this.
