I just found these pictures while looking for something else... My friend Bill Barrett and I decided to go to GSL in 2001 to get it off our Bucket Lists. So we made plans. Dave Pye, sent me an email inviting me to breakfast the first day of the show. I thought that was nice. But we were bowled over when we got there, all this in one room! Note that this was our very first impression of GSL, man were we happy we went!

Here's Bill and I before the breakfast. Man, we had hair and it's not gray!

I'll start with those facing us, the others are in the coming photos... Jim Keeler, who worked for Revell in the old days, Rene and Andy Kallen, Dave Pye (standing), Rik Hoving and Norman Veber

Gregg Hutchings of Model Cars and Kirk Bell of Scale Auto. KIrk was editor at that time.

Sad to say we have lost several of these participants over the years, but we sure had a great time in 2001!

I was there that year, but I wasn't invited to that breakfast. Fortunately, Moose slipped some extra servings into a napkin that he smuggled out to me. -_-

Tom, what a famous group of folks from the modeling community.

I still remember my first (and Only) GSL I had the honor of meeting Augie for the first time. RIP

To paraphrase JFK, the greatest assembly of modeling talent ever brought together in one place, with the possible exception of the time Gerald Wingrove dined there alone.

What a memorable trip! That was the year I turned fifty. Gregg treated a bunch of us to dinner one night and I was feted to Happy Birthday by a host of modeling luminaries. Just going that one time led to several return trips for Tom and I, and other TSSMCC members.

Here we are with The Man himself.

Craig, I remember the year you and your wife were there!

I've got "Going to GSL" on my Bucket List. Don't know when that'll happen though...... Have to save up a lot of modeling money to make that trip.

Like Richard GSL is on my bucket list. I plan on going out there, meeting some of the greats, blowing a large sum of cash on models, and visiting the International model car museum.

GSL is one of those things you need to do once. We all say "maybe someday" but it will remain that unless you get off your duff and make it happen. Back in 2001 I had lunch with Bill before one of our club meetings. We talked about going to GSL one day and then Bill shared that his 50th birthday would be that week. That evening I got to thinking, and I called Bill. I just said "We are going!" We both cleared it with our wives and we went! It felt great.

And once we went and the cool things that happened there, we just had to go back. And new cool things happened each time which just fueled us to go the next time. Things like having Bob Paeth sit down and tell you what it was like to produce your favorite 1960s kits at Revell. One year it was having a beer with Tom Daniel. And the year I kept Don Emmons company when he had a late dinner after a long day at the museum! So we went 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009. Then life got in the way with my job related move from NJ to PA kept us from going in 2011 and then the loss of mentioned job kept me away in 2013. We were talking today about going again next year.

As far as costs, we aren't rich guys but we thought it important to go. Figure with air fare, hotel and meals, it will cost a bit less than $1000. Can you save $10 a week in a jar? Do that for the 2 years between GSLs and you'll have $1040 saved! Easy as that.

I'm hoping to do it next year if the funds are available. GSL is a must for me. I'll probably have two dozen rolls of film with me and I probably will have completely mastered my IS-2's macro lens and functions.
