Don B Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Is there anyone who can help me with the correct colors on Dodge/Plymouth engine colors? I have seen in my muscle car books a blue color and an orange color. I know the hemi motors were orange. What I would like to know is what color is correct for the smaller motors. (340/383/440) In some of my books I noticed a lot of motors in 68 were blue and some books the 69 was orange. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Don

Don B Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Hey Don, check out this site. http://www.mymopar.com/enginecolors.htm Hey Ron... Thanks this answered my question perfectly.
Don B Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Even that site missed an engine in a certain color/engine combo for a two year time period. 1968 Dodge Superbees & Plymouth Roadrunners with the "high performance" 383 & 4 speed combo had an engine painted Hemi Orange. The same cars with automatics got a regular 383 & it was Chysler Torquoise. The difference between the "high peformance" & the regular 383 engines? The first one had a set of 440 heads & IIRC a 440 4 bbl intake that raised the HP from 330 to 335, a 5 hp gain. From 1969 on, all 383 equipped Superbees & Roadrunners, automatics or 4 speeds got the "high performance" version of the 383, & it was painted Hemi Orange, despite what the site says on all 383 engines being Chrysler Torquoise through 1969. Hey Mark... Thanks for the additional info. Don
Karl Sheffer Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 So what does everybody use to recreate the orange and turquoise in 1/25 scale? TIA
jbwelda Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 is there a color chart somewhere to match up these colors? its a coincidence i was just wondering about a color for a hemi motor, but an older one, for instance from the AMT double dragster kit...i had assumed orange.

I wouldn't worry too much about the color of a dragster engine..very rarely were they painted a factory color.
