carcrazy19 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 I don't think I'd worry a whole lot about the motor either if I were in your shoes. That finish though...........WOW! I aspire to throw a finish on an automotive build like the one you have. It's another area of modeling I'm lacking in. How'd you achieve the finish? I don't have a special technique that I use but I can tell you how I prep the body. First thing I do which you probably already know is soak the body in warm soapy water then wash and rinse. I then sand it with 800 grit sand paper so that the body has a smooth surface for the primer this will help to keep the peel to a minimum. After the primer has cured I then sand it with 1000 grit sand paper until I get the primer as smooth as possible. When I spray the color I spray 3 coats: light, medium, and a wet coat if there are any imperfections I let it dry for about 20 min then lightly sand it with 1500 grit. After about 20 minutes I spray the clear same as the color coats. Three coats as well. I let it dry for about a week and then sand, buff, and wax until I get the finish I want. I know this is kind of long winded answer but I hope it helps you achieve your goal, If you have any other questions let me know and I will try to help.
