What did you see on the road today?

Recommended Posts

On Saturday:  1973-ish Datsun 620 pickup, blue, like the ones I used to drive for work, in Cypress, CA

Today:  F4U Corsair on a trailer, going the other way on I-15

1971-72 Chevy Pickup, barn find on a trailer.

what part of Cypress did you work in?  i drive through Cypress commuting to/from work.  used to work in Los Alamitos on the border of Cypress (Katella & Bloomfield).  and iv known a few people who have lived in Cypress (one off Ball & Holder, and one off Cerritos and Denni)

don't know what year, but i saw a short bed bump side Ford.  looked pretty much stock.  couldn't tell you the last time i saw a short bed.

Every time I head into downtown Edmonton, I see a beautiful Land Rover Defender. The classic version, not the new one. Defender 110 wagon. White with black wheels. Not all blinged out with racks and lights and stuff. I have yet to be able to snap a pic, as it's downtown, so always a ton of traffic and not very conducive to picture taking. One day though...

My car club (Southern California Cougar Club) meets at Chili's in Cypress every month.
The place I worked, where I drove the Datsun pickups, was in North Hollywood, in the early 70s.

i know that Chili's.  i eat there a couple times a year and drive past it all the time cause i like to cruise by Toprank Imports which is right down Corporate ave.  didn't know there was a Southern California Cougar Club... i used to know a guy who was into those.  Steve, don't remember his last name.  had a gold 69 with white stripes and a black vinyl top.  351w under the hood.  white interior.  it wasn't a show car but it was a really clean well kept driver with fresh paint.  it was featured in Hot Rod or Car Craft Magazine back in like 2005.  used to hang out with him in the auto body department of Cerritos College.  haven't seen him or the car in almost 20 years.  i wonder if he still has that thing.  i vaguely remember him having a second 69 in serious need of work.  but was talking about doing Torino or Galaxy or something, i don't remember.

anyway i saw a Model T of unknown year today.  looked a little ruff but seemed pretty stock, clear down to the wooden wheels.  the guy was actually driving it!

That would be Steve Saavedra.  Cool guy.  I haven't seen him for a long time myself.

that would be the guy/car.  googled his name and found the Hot Rod Magazine article on it (for anyone who's interested https://www.hotrod.com/features/69-cougar-gold/ ) i wonder what he's up to these days. or if he's still in the area.  i haven't talked to him sense late 2006/early 2007 and if memory serves he was working as a rep for 3M or Dupont or something.

Tonight at the light. What else can I say?

This reminds me of the circus I saw a few nights ago.  While filling my car's fuel tank, several people drove their big ATVs into the gas station, noisy, lots of colorful flashing lights and loud stereos.

Yesterday evening while picking up my Mom's vehicle from the mechaninc, the 1983 Coupe DeVille that's unfortunately been sitting there for about 3 years. Florida car that came out of 20 year old storage with a rotted gas tank. Some guy's father's car that was purchased down there but the guy lived here. It's a two-door with black leather upholstery; not the standard living room couch. I guess the dude doesn't want to pay $700 for a new tank so he just let it rot out here, which is sad because when I first saw that car I wanted it. March 2023 I noticed someone keyed the front fenders; some badging's been gone since then. It's a Sad Cad, a real heart breaker in my eyes. It was actually a Caddy much like this that was the first "classic" car I saw and put me onto the craze.

Saw this turd a couple weeks ago.  And yes, all the drivers side windows and back window were busted out and plastic sheeted too.  My cousin saw it driving down the road still like this about a week ago.

Road rage maybe?  Might have made someone mad.

Or cheating spouse.  I know someone whose wife did that to their truck.

That's what I was wondering as well.  Had a former co-worker have his wife take some spray paint to his truck when he was caught cheating.
