Modelmartin Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Back on subject. Just tonight I purchased a copy of Tom Daniel's Rommel's Rod model kit on eBay. Never owned one in the past. Been kind of wishy washy over the last couple of years about buying one. But now with the PC police types out there, who knows? If I don't buy one now, will they be available in the future? Thanks guys. Your conversations about what's politically correct or not, has scared me into purchasing the kit. Scott Oh come on now, Scott! All of this talk about PC police is just silly! Has anyone ever even suggested that Rommel's Rod be banned from production? The very fact that they made new tooling to bring it back suggests otherwise. Despite what some folks think this is a very free country. There is no such thing as PC Police despite what some people on this board and elsewhere imagine. There is a heightened awareness of being nice to more people, though!

Different way of describing it.
Brett Barrow Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Because there's no greater freedom than the freedom to insult groups of people that you're not a part of.
Harry P. Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 I believe that's called "free speech," and is a right guaranteed in the Constitution. The fact that one person may say something that's offensive to another person is an unfortunate but unavoidable result of free speech. It happens every day, in thousands, if not millions, of instances. The only way to guarantee that someone won't be offended by something someone else says or does is to somehow determine everything that is offensive to anyone, and somehow remove those words or phrases from the language... and force everyone to forget those particular words or phrases forever. And if that were even possible, our concept of "free speech" or freedom of expression is gone. And besides that, it wouldn't be long before new "offensive" words would pop up, because that's human nature. You'll never be able to change human nature by trying to legislate it.

This is EXACTLY what some want.

Harry P. Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 This is EXACTLY what some want. Right. And those are the people I jokingly call the "PC Police" (Andy, per your previous post, I know there aren't literally PC Police out there... ). But those are the people who are convinced that their way of thinking is the correct way, and anyone who thinks otherwise must be forced to change their way of thinking to coincide with the "approved" or "politically correct" way of thinking and/or expressing themselves.
Harry P. Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Ok... I've been thinking about this. I think this thread needs to be locked. Not that anyone said anything out of line. In fact I think we covered this topic pretty well and pretty even-handedly... no blow-ups or flame throwing. But I think this subject has pretty much run its course. If anyone wants to continue the debate with anyone else, do it via PM.
