It would be nice to see you get them finished even if its just a shelf layout. Model RR'n was my main hobby for decades. There is a MRR swap meet in Spokane WA in March that my wife and I plan on attending if the weather cooperates. I really appreciate your compliment Sean. I believe you're correct in recalling it being in the Model Craftsman magazine, it was a long time ago.. lol. I used to get both magazines back in the day. I never tossed out anything so I still have my magazines along with a multitude of hard back railroad books packed away in the garage. Model railroading has become way to expensive for me, and I doubt that I'll ever finish them, but I'd be more than happy to gift them to someone who would be interested in incorporating them into their layout. If you and the misses get to attend the swap meet, have a grand time. 1

John M. Posted January 30 Posted January 30 I'm happy that the Arctic cold temps are coming to and end in the Boston Area as is this month. It's been brutal. However, the drivers and I wouldn't have able to earn out paychecks if it weren't for the mechanics at our school bus company who were in early everyday to make sure all the busses started and ran. 95% of the fleet was up and running for all of January. The boss paid they them well. Hats off to them. 2
stavanzer Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Had to Smog Test my New(to me) 2007 Chevy truck. It went fast and Painlessly. (A rarity in California now) Off to the DMV for Tags tomorrow. Switching from Oregon to California Tags is always a coin toss. Sometimes easy, but not always. 3

Sometimes easy, but not always. They will need to do a VIN verification on any vehicle brought in from out of state. Not a big deal, but it is an extra step in the process. It was waiting in line three times when I registered the M.I.L.'s Camry in our name. Once for paperwork, outside to a covered area with the car for the VIN verification, then back in line to get the plates/registration. In theory, they will want to collect the Oregon plate, so bring tools. They may give you a pass on that part, I don't know. 1

I am now familiar with the DMV 3-Step.....The VIN verification process for older (1980-1990) Toyota's is a HUGE P.I.T.A. The Vin plates are very hard to read without a flashlight. Guess what the VIN Verification folks at the DMV Won't/ Don't use. Had to take the '87 Camry to the CHP to get it done. I may take the plates off before I get there tomorrow. Thanks for the thoughts. It Helps.

Guy looked at the VIN on the engine, the door decal, and the VIN on the dash and signed me off in about 5 minutes. The person that issued the plates in step 3 had about a room temperature IQ and didn't understand that it was a transfer from parent to child + child's spouse and tried to charge me like we had purchased the car.
stavanzer Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Guy at the DMV who checked my VIN, Looked at the Hard to Read Toyota VIN Tag, and then announced that he could not verify it, and it had to go to CHP. When I suggested that he look at the ID plate on the Firewall, or the Door tag, I was angrily informed that the California DMV used ONLY the VIN Tag, and nothing else on the car was legal to use. Therefore there ws no need for him to even look at anything else. Guy was a "Horse's Behind" in spades.
LennyB Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Stepped out of my truck earlier today and found a twenty dollar bill sitting in the snow. Guess we can get those extra toppings on the pizza tonight once it dries out😁 1 2

It appeared to me that the guy who verified mine was also checking to make sure the VIN was the same in all three places.
slusher Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Took my brother to the urologist to get his catheter removed he had so much scarring they cut it out with a laser. Now he can pee like a 10 year old boy. He is still burning and hurting some but he is unblocked. 2

Ace-Garageguy Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Cleared two of the last few hurdles finishing up the 1:1 750HP 572-powered '66 Chevelle build: 1) down to only two candidates from 19 Holley HydraMats, will know which one I want after dropping the tank again Monday and measuring the distance between the lateral baffles, and 2) found solutions for the valve cover breathers and oil-mist catch-can setup, no BS, American engineered, designed, and manufactured too by a bunch of really smart guys. 6

That'll be one sweet ride, not to mention Fast. My brother had a '66 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed back in the 70's. The guy that owned it before him swapped the motor out for a 327 and dropped the 396 in his race car but left all the original badges on the car. I've always liked the '66 look over the '67. I read your above post to him and he started drooling. 😉 1
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 2 Posted February 2 (edited) Alka-Seltzer pleased me today. Tonight, ackchooalee. I very rarely need it, maybe twice a year max, but it never fails to do the job. (This is not a paid endorsement) Edited February 2 by Ace-Garageguy 1 1
TonyK Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Saw a tv commercial last night for Alka-Seltzer Plus where you just put a fizzy tablet in your mouth. No dropping it in water. That's got to be weird. Call me strange but I love Alka-Seltzer. I tell the wife I wish I'd get sick or have indigestion so I have an excuse to take it but I never need to. She thinks I'm nuts. 1
ranma Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Our wal-mart had a deal that was much to great to pass up, I bought 11 packs. These are natural casing hot dog's and usually quite pricey, Regular price was $8.97 Clearance price $1.00 each! Also found quite a bit of reduced ground beef and chicken breast. I ended up buying Ground Chuck 1/3 Lbs patties (4 LBS) $11.44 X2 One pack of 1/3 Lbs (4 LBS) $14.44 While the Tyson skinless/boneless chicken breast were about $5.00
JollySipper Posted February 2 Posted February 2 The hammy is starting to be more active, kinda getting out of the 'sleep all day' winter habit some....... He's in his ball right now.... Here's the most recent pic of the little scamp. 2
RSchnell Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Week 2 since my TV laid an egg and I don't miss it. That valuable real estate where the squawk box used to sit will be used to display built kits or something along that line. 1
Falcon Ranchero Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Another Tuesday off, sun's coming to say hi, and it is supposed to be the sunniest day this week. Job fair tomorrow regarding our summer jobs, so we apparently have to "sell ourselves" to the potential employers. My best shirt is fresh from the wash, business cards made out, haircut last Saturday, shaved the beard (there wasn't much of one) but the 'stache is stayin'. A bit on edge about tomorrow as it is out of our comfort zones but I'll be competing for these jobs with my closest of friends so I have to make sure I come out on top. 4

Good luck at the job fair, I know you've been looking to work, so I get the nerves. You seem like you've got a "good head on your shoulders", so I'll say you got this no problem. 👍 2

How did it go at the job fair? did you mop the floor with the competition and come out on top? 🤞 1
