TFchronos Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) My main entry for this years Cannonball Run CBP. Plans are to replicate the '68 Dart I have on Forza 4. I'll get a picture of it up at a little later on. Nothing wild or over the top just something a normal car guy with moderate building experience could pull off. Well maybe little above that. Starting point First order of business is to cut the doors and trunk lid open. The cuts ended up being very clean so I might have the body work and some base color on it over the weekend. Thanks for looking! Edited November 16, 2014 by TFchronos
TFchronos Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Thanks John! After a little crappy weather and some body work I was finally able to get the primer coat on. If all goes well I should be able to get the base coat on today. Thanks for looking!
hjracing Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Cool build! I think it can be a great contender for the Cannonball!
TFchronos Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Thanks José and Chris! Here's the base coat, sprayed yesterday evening. Should have at least the first color on over the weekend, provided the weather holds out (which wasn't been the case all week so we'll see). Thanks for looking! Edited October 17, 2014 by TFchronos
microwheel Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 This is looking pretty good. Did you hinge the doors? And are you building out the door jams before you paint it?
TFchronos Posted October 19, 2014 Author Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) Thanks Dan, Jim, and Richard. Yes Jim the doors and trunk are hinged to open. I was in the process to making door jams but never finished them thanks for reminding me. I'll start working on that again directly. Edited October 19, 2014 by TFchronos
batmanreturns Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 very nice, what are you using to hinge....
microwheel Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I got the Mr. Norm's version and the Hemi version of this kit. I like em both and have plans to do one in the near future. You'll have to let me know your door hinge technique. I line opening doors and such, but sometimes struggle getting em to line up and open correctly. Model Car Garage makes a outstanding detail set for this kit. You should check it out if you haven't done so already.

Doors: Please note this picture is of the right door. The following pictures are of the left door, being the one I could get apart for showing.
TFchronos Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 Update with colors, Inferno Red and Gloss Black. I wanted to include a picture of my Forza 4 Dart I'm making this after but don't have any pics on my PC of it so I'll have to check my storage hard drive. Thanks for looking!
TFchronos Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Update for the Dart, haven't gotten much done. ran into a slew of fitting problems with the doors. Finally got them fixed and thought I would put up an update. Still trying to get it done for the Cannonball but it's looking grim, I don't think I can pull it off with my now limited time. Anyways as promised a while back here's what I'm replicating, it's the '68 Dart I have a Forza 4. As for an update to the project itself, here are the rims it will be getting. Modeled by myself in Blender 3D and printed by Shapeways back when I did the Fast Five Charger & Skyline. And finally the engine. Thanks for looking!
MeatMan Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Thanks for sharing such a nice build. I have that kit in the drawer so the door and trunk tips are appreciated.
slusher Posted November 19, 2014 Posted November 19, 2014 Awesome two tone paint Jonathan. I really like those wheels also...
Tompidom Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I like those wheels man, They'll look good on the model!
microwheel Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 Thanks for the hinge info Jonathan, I'll note it for the future. Great gob on the wheels by the way. I like your color choice to. Looking forward to watching your build as you go along with it.
bill_67 Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 This is going to be really nice, everything looks great. By the way the the gtx all ready completed is awesome.
TFchronos Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Thanks Carl, Tom, Jim and Bill. Thought after looking at the pics I realized that I forgot to paint the caps silver so I'll have to get on that. Not really much to update on the Dart today, I made some custom decals like on the game Dart and they turned out pretty good. After it warms up (if it does) I'll see about getting the bonder sprayed on the decal sheet and get them on the body so I can finally get it clear coated. Thanks again everyone!
