Hello, Folks, just to let those of you who are interested in building models and dioramas know that there's an exciting new challenge going on!!!

For more inforamtion on what a RAD is, check this out:

I also double posted this in the dio section, but I remind you this build is just not for dios only. Any vehicle that can be used as a sign will work!!!

Thanks, gents, there are lots of inspirational ideas to be had when you start thinking of vehicles that are used as signs, to sell something, by the roadside.

Sounds great. But a couple of things to note.

Diorama size at NNL Eastl is limited to 2' x 3'. If yours is larger than that contact Tom Geiger at ModlCitizn@aol.com to be sure you can display it. Also, only static dioramas can be displayed. This is written into the lease and is required by the hall. No lighting or other special effects. This is a safety issue and isn't something the club had any say about. Also, this is not an official NNL East theme, so there's no balloting for it. But my understanding is that whichever one of you has the best one according to Ken Hamilton, that individual gets to wash all his cars.

Good luck.

Bill Barrett.

Thanks for those reminders Bill. I am sooooo looking forward to this years show at the new place and enjoying the fellowship with other modelers, especially dioramists (is that a word?). You guys always put on a great show and am sure this years will top them all.

The "R.A.D. challenge" is being sent out by the diorama guys on the B&D Board and to be displayed with all the other dioramas on the tables at the NNL East. That is to say that there are no awards or special recognitions being made, only people getting together to talk about there inspirations and building styles in doing their R.A.D. I've talked to Tom, passed it on to the B&D people, and just to reiterate, This is NOT a challenge sanctioned by NNL EAST! And yes, Ken plans on driving his 40 passenger RV to the show for a washing!

Mike, I'm looking forward to it, too. It'll be good to see you again. We'll have the world's best dioramists in the same room. The center of the modeling universe shifts from Parsippany to Wayne on April 12. See you then.

Bill.

By the way, let me add this. Dioramas are definitely eligible for the People's Choice Award. In fact, dioramas have taken the People's Choice three years in a row (or three out of the last four, I forget which), so they are in the NNL East balloting generally. There's just no specific award for the diorama category. An NNL is not a competition, but you could go home with a People's Choice.

I totally agree with Mike. The awards are not as important (or rather they mean less) than the chance to see old friends and admire what other builders are doing, or have done in the year. I have to say, my first NNL East experience took place last year and as Ken Hamilton promised me, it was a mind-blowing experience. Before then I had never seen that many great models in one room. Not to mention the aftermarket vendors that gather there too!!!

Returned home wowed and humbled, for sure!!!
