And I discovered this band through an Evanescence search on Pandora. This is symphonic metal. A great metal band fronted by an operatic mezzo-soprano. very unique and dramatic.

I listen to a lot of old punk, ska, metal, goth and thrash. So its kind of a genre thing.

This is a Japanese group that is a mash up of Idol pop and metal. I like it.

Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes....phenomenal group from Melbourne Australia. Retro soul sound. I got to see and meet them in Chicago at the Bottom Lounge. Very nice people.

Nightwish is fantastic. I like Annette better than Tarja. Bye Bye Beautiful is my favorite.

I think both brought something different and beautiful to the music. According to Wiki though neither is still with the band. This is the newest lead.

I do agree about Bye Bye Beautiful though. The male vocalist is great and we just don't hear enough of him.

Some great stuff in this thread. I had a lot of obscure albums in my day. Some incredible music that never made it to the big time.

Somewhere in my early years as a Uriah Heep fan, I picked up 8 tracks of several former and future members old bands and solo projects. A couple of classics came out of these.

My favorite of the old Heep related stuff was Ken Hensley's solo album "Proud Words On A Dusty Shelf"

It seems to be listed song by song on Youtube, so here are two high points.

Fortune, the album's Magnum Opus and strongest track (In my opinion)

and "Rain" which became a hit for Uriah Heep.

Interestingly enough, his backing band featured all of the members of Uriah Heep, so it was almost a Heep album, but it had quite a different feel.

Like it. Reminds me a bit of Amy Winehouse. Heres one of my favorites from her.

Since we seem to be on a run of female artist I'll recommended Audra Mae - The Happiest Lamb I like the whole album but here are two of my favorites.

Love the slap drum sound.

Not in about twenty five years. But they did my favorite cover of Ballroom Bash. :D

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but a friend turned me onto it a couple of hours ago.

Billy Joel... in a late '60's psychedelic metal band with a penchant for pipe organs. Yes, it's every bit as awful as you think it is after reading that. But... I just... can't.... stop....listening....

Five Horse Johnson, good rock band from Ohio

If you don't already know Gov't Mule checkout Dose I think you would like it. Here are two of my favorites from this killer album.

I just ran across Stan Getz "Voyage". Apparently not a well known disc, but just about as cool as it gets if you like melodic jazz that's not trying to out-screech-and-out-hip the next guy.

I like Timbuk 3, they had one hit (The Futures so bright I gotta wear shades) but are otherwise pretty obscure. They only had the one hit but are a solid band, I like just about everything they did.

Kind of an eclectic sound though, hard to pick just one song that represents them. Assume many are familiar with their hit song, so this is another off of their first album Greetings from Timbuk3, kind of the other end of the spectrum from gotta wear shades.

Levon Helm - Dirt Farmer.  Great alt-country album. Levon Helm was the drummer and vocalist for The Band.

I love the chorus of this song.
