Twokidsnosleep Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Tip: We only post our successes here - not our failures......... Ha ha...some of us If I didn't post my failures, I would wind up posting nothing! Good old rattle can is working fine Only x20 with Tamiya, I know better And I forgot to buy the gloss black for the Alcad Chrome I just got Ahhhhhh, complete airbrush idiot! Twokidsnosleep Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) She is coming along. This is all dry fitted and now starting to look like a MG The hood and doors need paint and some fiddling to get to fit, touch up the runs of red in engine compartment Will try to get wheels done today as well I can't do any Alclad chrome as I need that gloss black first and LHS is closed Sun and Mon Thinking red in the grill, not tan as the factory would be Gonna get working now Edited January 20, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) First time using BareMetalFoil. The running board accent lines, three each side are BMF....mine is sticky backed foil so no glue. Just cut 1mm strips and burnished with cotton bud Angle of photo shows top inside one looks off. Finicky, but better than paint Edited January 19, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Nice and nice tan wheels too. Must just be the yellow of the light, wheels are grey, soon to be primed and silver Do I prime white or grey before painting silver for wheels? (Not Alclad just Tamiya silver) Quote
bobthehobbyguy Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I would prime black. Trick of figure painters to undrrcoat metallics with black. Quote
Cato Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Danged if that's not tan on my screen. Forget silver - do 'em tan like your seats. Will look vintage and great. Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) You are making me think twice Tan wheels and a tan rad grill would look pretty cool But all my research says silver wheels with grill matched to the interior I have seen quite a few red cars, red engines, red grilles and silver wheels...that is where I got started Edited January 19, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) My four day weekend update I spray painted fenders, cab, and doors red and wheels silver I bare metal foiled the running board raised lines and then went on a tangent and BMF'd the top of the door armrests. After that I had to do the circumference of the whole tub so it looked continuous and then the dashboard rim as well. After all that nice chrome, the wheels looked dull so I zapped them with some Tamiya Bright Silver to brighten them up a bit Got bigs hunk of the paintwork done today so now can focus on some assembly My photo bucket is acting weird right now and won't let me copy and paste the photo links ....will try later Cheers for looking Edited February 11, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) Try this again for pics Paint came out ok. Still need to give it a clear coat and polish. Going to be a bit of a fight with the bonnet's fit so am saving that for last. Be gentle, this is my first use of BMF. Happy to have any tips/comments So I circled the cabin with chrome and added some of the lines on the rear fenders. I know there is a sprue to remove still in behind the seats Some glamor shot practice with a background C'est tout pour ce soir Edited January 20, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Thanks Bob, slowly but surely Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Did a sneaky late night "can't go to sleep 'cause I had a coffee too late model session" last night I removed that back sprue in the cab, covered a plastic bench in matching interior leather and covered the seat back and floor in the ultra suede material Smoothed out the gas tank and adjusted it to sit tight against the rear of the cab Forgot to set my alarm and slept in half an hour this morning...ooops, made for a fast morning! Twokidsnosleep Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Rear carpet/seat back, leather covered bench, sprue removed and BMF touched up. Body is still dry fitted Edited January 22, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 I have clear coated the body....have to rub it out now Dash is the next project. Lots of little stuff to fit and wire and fabricate and on and on and on Quote
sjordan2 Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) Looking excellent. I'm not jazzed about the non-standard chrome, but this is going to be really nice. Great chassis work. Edited January 25, 2015 by sjordan2 Quote

Ha I know, I got a little carried away with the BMF.....first time user, what could go wrong, I can stop anytime I want. Lucky the whole darn thing ain't chromed out like a P51! Quote

Lucky the whole darn thing ain't chromed out like a P51! Most British sports cars of the 60s had the chrome/aluminum around the upper edges, though perhaps not any MG, but it's the running board and rear fenders that bother me. Twokidsnosleep Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Oh seriously!! Those were SCREAMING for chrome...at least that is what I heard!! Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) This was one of my first research cars...note the running board and a shiny P51 in the background ! ooh this one does too it is not my fault, that weird lip moulded on the rear fender was taunting me to chrome it, I was weak.... That is it Skip, no ride for you when I get finished Edited January 26, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Ok after all my horsing around Skip, what am I missing on her?? I have been looking at this since November and am sure I need to add something else I can't see for example how about steering linkage Quote
Cato Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Geeze, these are pretty little Brit roadsters. Classic lines and wires. Mine would have an LS-7 in it though... Quote
Twokidsnosleep Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) Funny, I was just thinking how tiny the engine looked after watching that Bentley Spitfire video of Jay Leno's I love the car, but am getting a little sick of the build, looking forward to move onto something different BUT tomorrow we meet a team to discuss knocking our house down....there may be NO modelling soon :0 Edited January 25, 2015 by Twokidsnosleep Quote
