Winter in the Northeast is not the best painting weather. So this year, I decided to paint some kits in advance. I already had a VW Bug built - so I decided to paint some other VW kits in September - a Vanagon, a Samba Van and a cargo van. I painted, bagged them, then starting working on them when the temp got to freezing. This is kind of a cross between Under Glass and On The Workfbench.

Here are some pics of the VW Bug I had already built - it's from the Tamiya kit

The next to be built which i just finished, is the Vanagon from Revell of Germany. I found this kit (and the Samba Van) very difficult to built. Lots of warping - but with patience and a few clamps it worked out. Here are some pics

Hi from Germany! I own a Beetle and together with my brother a Camper like your Vanagon. Like your models. But you changed the mirrors of the Vanagon. They aren't right in place. The left one belongs to the right side and the other way round. It's funny, that some guys in Germany also have this mixed up. To my regret I have to say, that no Camper did it into my shelf.

But! I took a look into the build sheet and it looks like Revell drawed it wrong! I have to contact them ;)

Really nice builds. I started building the latest reissue of the Westfalia Club Joker camper a few years ago and I will agree that it can be a bit difficult. I also have some earlier issues and they look a lot better. I guess the molds are getting worn out.

Found a picture of the instruction sheet. Here Revell made the mistake with the drawing. Don't know wheter the parts are right named or there is a mistake too. Will double-check this with my brother.

Hey guys. Thanks for the comments. I think it's cool that the forum has members from right around the corner in New Jersey USA, but also Bonn, Germany and in Norway. I've been to Frankfurt, Hamburg and Oslo so i can at least relate geographically. Christian - so funny that the mirrors are in the wrong position - and you discovered it! I'm sure it's not the first time I built something with the parts upside down or reversed  . I'll update these photos when i finish the other two builds. Thanks again for the comments. Doug

Did some more work over the last couple of weeks.

Here's a picture I omitted of the Vanagon engine

Then, I finished off the Samba van. Like the Vanagon, really challenging problems with fit and warping, but it turned out ok. In general, one of the things that modeling teaches me is that things will never be perfect. I can always see some flaws, but the point is, do the work the best you can, enjoy and move on. Like in real life!

The interior came out nice with the neutral grays

Next up is the VW cargo van - the Jagermeister version. Should be fun.
