not even the end of the 2nd month and already 40 racers.

Tim

One things for sure, voting will be tough. Some nice concepts out there.

40 builders, it would be cool if we all finish our projects.

Historically about 25-30% is average, however we picked a great theme and it has pulled in a lot more builders. We'll have to wait and see.

Personally, this is the eighth consecutive year for this CBP, and in that time I've completed two racers. Last year I didn't even get the kit open. Life happens.

Here's the years and the themes of our past Cannonballs.

The first four were on the SA forums.

2008 - unlimited

2009 - unlimited

2010 - route 66 rundown

2011 - 30th Ann Cannonball Run/ '81 or older

After that we moved here.

2012 - American Graffiti / '62 or older

2013 - unlimited

2014 - Honoring Brock Yates/ '79 or older

2015 - Sleepers

2016 and into the future? - Yeah probably :D

Yep... I would have loved to have completed AND competed last year... but I got bamboozled by someone in a parts trade... Oh well... the General Mayhem would have probably broke down in true Roadkill fashion anyhow! haha

Hopefully this year will turn out decent for me...

For what it's worth, last year I went back and recovered photos of all the finishers of all the years. I thought maybe for the 10th year I'd post a retrospective. Sadly, some of the earlier SAE photos had broken links but I got one representative photo of each entry that's still online.

Very cool. I was thinking for the theme on year ten, we'd do "Stalled Cannonball builds".

The ferrule intake tubes are in and not the best work but they will do. One thin I did that could have been left was file the flange where the tubes almost touch .. the 1:1 has this done and it is very obvious. The copper color is showing through now. May do a little silver touch up. I really didn't have to do this with the small flanges.

Here's another shot with the kit tubes in place for comparison

That is a cool idea but what about the folks that completed all their prior Cannonball builds, like me? B):D

Cool stuff everyone, still nothing worth noting from me yet.

Here is my build it's a Toyota Vitz in American is called a Yaris. Still waiting on some more parts.

That looks just like Deb's 2005 Toyota Echo 2 door

What engine are you gonna put in it?

You and any other show-offs, will have to build a Cannonball racer out of a Palmer kit.:P

Good news. My work trip to WA has been cancelled. So I will be spending more time at the bench.

I've decided on the gloss rootbeer brown for the Pacer with a tan interior. I'm still puzzling on the roll bar. It's gonna have to be the tightest roll cage I've ever done and painted to match the interior.

It's not much to show but it's something, I decided to remove the trim on the Fairlane, there's obviously a couple areas needing some more attention but otherwise I think it looks good

just updating my build, got the engine and drive line fitted, modified the gto chassis by removing some of the center section out. I also updated the engine intake to look like the 599xx.imagejpg1_zpsa354eb23.jpgimage.jpg3_zpsz3opkn8r.jpg

The only progress on the Gremlin is body and frame being sanded. The van, I'm still deciding on which chassis to truly use.

I finally started cuttin on my entry. The first thing I'm gonna attempt is getting the NASCAR back half fitted to the Nomad. I had open the wheel wells about .125 to the rear. I'm gonna have to make the interior look like it was sectioned, which I guess is exactly what I'm doing. This gonna have to fool people with an, all show no go idea.

Worked all day to get the front wheels to fit inside the wheel wells (barely). I'm working on the rear suspension now which has been problematic because its an independent rear suspension and the setup is way different than what I'm used to but I've got some ideas. Now that I have the front wheels on I have a ride height to aim for.

Continuing to plug away on this. I fitted the kit bumper mounts to the new rear section. I'll be doing some sheet styrene work on it to make a fuel cell. The top side of the fuel will be under a false floor, I'm unsure if I want hinge it so details can be seen or just leave it solid.
