Another thing I've been thinking about is how long to wait to peel the masking tape (Tamiya) off after the second color has been applied. In my Pat Covert bible he just says to let the paint 'dry. So for enamel we're taking several hours and for lacquer, (which I'll be using) , we're talking an hour, at the most two , before you peel the tape off? I know I should be practicing, but , it's kind of hard to practice when it's 40 degrees outside. Anyway it is what it is, looks like I'll be putting the second color on Tuesday if the weather is as predicted.

I have always let the body dry over night before taking the tapes off. But I think you can do it sooner as well, there should be no problem when the paint is 'touch dry'.

That base color looks very good on that body. Good looking paint job and a nice color as well. I can't wait to see how it looks with the second color applied.

Hey Niko! I been wondering where you been. I left myself online and didn't realize it.

I'm going to pull the tape off at around the two hour point, it should be good and dry by then.

The plan is to do this Tuesday, if not then Wednesday, but , I'm shooting for Tuesday. :)

Thanks!

Yep, I've been in a hurry with my '50 Oldsmobile Mild Custom that I'm building for a model car show next Saturday. It should be done, but there's still a lot of work to do. Also I've spent some time in the garage with those rust repairs... B)

Your Barracuda looks very good though, I think the paint should be okay after two hours of drying if you remove the tape.

Let me know what you think for the livery, , or , anything else for that matter , I'm worn out , I feel lucky to be able to do this , I'm having a great time. Oh ya, I'm thinking of a very thin pin stripe on the top edge where the colors meet, yellow, or , red , maybe black even? Let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks Niko, a '50 Olds sounds cool! Do you have a thread for it? Rust repairs are fun!

Yep! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=77488

Nothing wrong with rust repairs, but the "fun" starts when it's time to apply some Bondo...:D

That paint job looks great! Perfect shade of blue that works very well with those body shapes and with the silver base color. Good job on that. B)

Thanks for the compliments Ace, and , Niko.

Ace, I think you're right, that makes perfect sense to match the stripe in the decal. Where do I get good pin stripes for this? And how do I know what size to get? I think it needs a pin stripe there. I put them on before clearing ( :o) ? Clear, or , pearl? I'm leaning towards pearl for the clear.

Niko, That Chevy will be a wonderous machine. You should see this blue 1:1, it's very nice.

I forgot to mention earlier that there are four coats of Racing Blue on the car, two light coats and two wet coats. I guess I should clear it and then polish? I'm an expert at this

Here's what it looks like after 4 hours of drying time, it's leveled out some:

Looks like I ran over the apex a little on this one, the pin stripe should cover that:

Well, that's it, it's 5:06am and I'm drinking black tea and smoking cigarettes. Oh, and listening to jazz on NPR, with a black cat in my lap.

Hope you're all going to have a great day!

gene, save the cost and hassle....just take some wide black decal stripes, use a straight edge, cut to width you need....and apply them section by section. then you control how you want them to appear, and if you blow it on some...who cares...cut some more, and fly again. when the decal striping is on the car for 10 minutes or so, apply some watered down Solvaset along the stripes, wait 4 or 5 hours to dry out....and enjoy. if there is a small spot here and there that is not perfect, touch up with a narrow brush and black paint....just a thought...the ace... ;)

Thanx for the reminder Ace. I'm going to need to enhance the yellow pinstripes on the Charlie Allen car I'm doing. Using decal material would be perfect.

Gene, if you don't have enough black stripe decals, if you have some clear decal paper, you can shoot it black then cut stripes.

Thanks you guys. I couldn't find any 1/64" pin stripe anywhere in town, even called an art supply store, and my LHS couldn't order Line-O Tape cause 1/64" was ' Out Of Stock. How is that gonna look though, doing it with decal paper? I'm thinking I need 1/64", the black outline on the decal is 1/32" and it looks 'huge' for a pin stripe. I guess I could try decal paper because it will be three sections no matter what I use, so it might not be too bad. Cutting 1/64" evenly might be though. We're modelers right, we can do anything in scale!

Thanks Carl, I missed you man! You should see that blue 1:1. I tried ordering the Line -O- Tape today from my LHS it was out of stock. I'll come up with something, thanks.

Vince that's a great idea! I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, may order some stripes from Microscale.

Gene, I really like both those decals I don't think you could go wrong with whatever you choose. I like that Hemi Hustler a little bit more. I never got back with you on the burnish, I have a foil burnish tool for foil I bought at Hobby Lobby, that I rub the tape down with. It is made by testors and was about 7 bucks. Man, I will do my best to keep an eye on this sweet build you have going buddy...

Thanks Carl and JC. Carl, that burnishing tool sounds like a good thing, I may have to pick one of those up, was it in the modeling section? I used the end of a small paint brush, (thanks Joe!) , that didn't work too bad, I think I could have done a little more burnishing in some places, but, it was my first two-tone paint job on a body, and , now I have a better idea of what, and , how to do things. It was fun to do, I will definately do it again.

JC, Hemi Hustler (the unloved 'Super Boss' child) it is!

Today is the last day I will be able to paint for a while so I better get busy.

Thanks for all the replies, this would not have turned out so well without them!

Gene
