RubiconGuy11 Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 This is super cool, can't wait to see it finished. Great work so far.
slusher Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Cool and creative custom. Love what I see so far.
Krazy Rick Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) I appreciate your feedback and thank you! I have noticed this myself, it seems really bad from some angles, and not so bad from others.. I have a couple ideas on how to visually minimize the frontend once I get back into the body work. But if they don't work I have a feeling I may be reworking the axle like you have suggested. The original idea of making the front wider was to have something that looked like a 1951 grille opening with wide body flares. I think I have that look nailed, It is just not meshing with the rear because once fenders were molded into the "bed" they lost their visual depth... Thank you again for your feedback and suggestions. I really think it's almost there, and now, it's just a matter of a few design touches to get the balance. Header/sidepipe location would greatly change the flow, and perhaps think about reworking the fins ( gradually widen 1/16" or so ) - not to the radical point, but just to help balance.I would " mirror" the grill ( what ever you decide on, keeping in mind, that horizontal grill bars will make the front appear wider, .... maybe a bullet-type/ 49 Custom Merc/Monogram 58 T-bird Custom grill treatment to solve this ? - it would give an more aggresive look ) ; with a rear treatment to keep a flow & probably try to work in another little T-Bird element ( gauges, seats, or some small front exterior addition ) ...... to acheive design consistency. I do know this will be a super nice build when your done - your work is clean & proper - I'm digging it - thanks for sharing !! Edited January 18, 2015 by Krazy Rick
Impalow Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Thanks guys!! Im still struggling with the grille, but i have so many other things to develop I am trying not to get hung up on it just yet. I had a work trip that forced me halt progress for a week, thankfully i was able to make some 2D progress on the plane with some sketching and photoshop fun. Here is my idea to play with the proportions a bit, and make the exterior more radical.... now that i see it... i think i have to do it.. Lines indicated would just be body/bone lines, no trim. It just seems to tie it all together, and makes it a cohesive vehicle. and here is a rough intent sketch for the interior... this is going to have to be mostly scratchbuilt... and fun. exesivefire Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Not sure why, but the first pic makes me hungry for Wendy's chili.. Or a frosty...
Impalow Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 Finally made some good progress tonight! Capped the bed/interior opening with angle... Scratch built the dash... Yup, Andy... With the help of Wendy's spoons And then the center console..again Wendy's spoons to the rescue!
crazyrichard Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 whouw thats just stunning , shape and flow are awsome
72 Charger Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Love where your heading with this . Could I suggest you put a bit more rake to the windshield frame . Just my two cent's
Impalow Posted February 2, 2015 Author Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Love where your heading with this . Could I suggest you put a bit more rake to the windshield frame . Just my two cent's Thank you! That may happen... I want to keep that funky sixties look, but i agree that would look better. I'm transitioning back onto the exterior tonight now that the interior is shaping up. Last night I added some detail to the center console and mounted the seats(AMT 49 Merc? I think) Then the steering column (Detail Master) And the steering wheel (59 caddy) Then I started on the "targa bar/headrests" (more spoons) after some conversation with Exesivefire/Andy, I am thinking less targa bar more "floating" with an artsy stantion coming from the interior tub. This wont interupt the exterior as much, and look more 60's I am thinking.... Edited February 2, 2015 by Impalow
jbwelda Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 dude that interior is genius! rest of it is right up there too! but now I got to go find some spoons! jb
slusher Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Outstanding work, love how the interior is looking...
Foxer Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 A real custom! The interior looks magnificent ... I don't even want to suggest modern Mini I'm totally enjoying this!
Intmd8r Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Crazy imagination! takes skill to transform concept into reality - nice work.
Impalow Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) Thank you guys for all the kind words! You are all helping me stay motivated on this thing. Here is a quick update, I started working on the tuck & roll interior with the seats. Each pleat is .060 styrene half round and I'm planing on using detail master ingition wire as piping.. First time doing any of this, but so far im happy with the result, I'm also happy that there are only two seats and the rest is somewhat flat. (excuse my nasty fingers) Next up is the exterior styling... I knocked out one side last night, not my cleanest work by any means... but it will get some filler and be fine. Just need to make the other side match and I can move on to the grille and filler/primer. Edited February 6, 2015 by Impalow
Impalow Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) Thank you bob! I was able to get all the "sheet metal" work done today so I can start molding everything in... I also reworked my firewall with a pleated insert. It's starting to come together, can't wait to see it in color. Edited February 8, 2015 by Impalow
Ridge Rider Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 This is wild. I like your design and fabrication. Thanks for sharing.
crazyrichard Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 whouw getting better and better , love it all
Impalow Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 (edited) Thank you guys! Made the Wendy's spoon headrests today, changed up my original idea on that. Went with independent headrests for each seat on floating tubing supports. Need to stop stalling on the grille design and fabrication. Edited February 9, 2015 by Impalow
exesivefire Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 you already know what I think... I know why we get along though, your attention to detail makes me feel normal. Ha
