10thumbs
Hi Brayden, 2mm for an altered is just fine. What kind of frame specifically? Michael

southpier
2 mm is about 1.89" in 1/24 scale*. even if prototype frames would be okay with this, you might want to go a little bigger & smaller on different parts of the frame for visual interest. for example, if you're making the full door panels part of the frame, I'd use something smaller for the infill members just so it doesn't appear too much of a mass. paint also adds thickness, so take it into account, too. * http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/inches-to-millimeters.htm Edited January 10, 2015 by southpier
10thumbs
The frame tubing on the AMT Bantam Blast and Winged Express, both 1:25, is 2,1 mm. The more modern funny car chassis, 1:25 are a bit thinner. Good tip about the paint adding size, I agree.
ScaleDale
I use 1.6mm rod to approximate 1 5/8 in. OD tubing on my drag cars. That is 1/25 scale for the current accepted NHRA standard for tube chassis on anything. Dale
10thumbs
Hi Dale, Thanks for the info! Do you have a pic or two to show the size relation? Excellent! Michael
ScaleDale
Hi Dale, Thanks for the info! Do you have a pic or two to show the size relation? Excellent! Michael Here's a link to the thread I started too long ago for my 49 Merc ProMod. All of the chassis work is done with 1.6mm rod. I still need to finish this. I stalled on the project trying to over detail the engine. Watch out for that kind of stuff. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78679 Dale
