MPi-KM Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Who makes a better detailed and accurate chassis to replace the ugly 1-piece in AMTs '72 GMC stepside p/u?
jeffs396 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Revell 64/65 Chevy pickup will work, with a bit of effort...
Longbox55 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 The Revell 64/65 Chevy chassis will work. The basic 2wd chassis is the same from '63-'72. You will need to change the rear suspension, GMC used leaf spring suspension on the rear, instead of the trailing arm/coil spring that Chevy used.
jeffs396 Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Here's a couple pics... Revell '64-'65 on the left, AMT '72 GMC on the right: As you can see, wheelbase is IDENTICAL. And here's the Revell chassis inserted (easily) into the GMC cab, NO TRIMMING here. I haven't assembled one like this yet, but I foresee no problems, just a nip & a tuck here and there, as with any kitbash project!
MPi-KM Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 A million thanks for those pictures Jeff! Is there a difference between the 2 Revell kits? I see there is a long bed and a step side kit.
Fabrux Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 No long bed, just a full-width shorty and a stepside.
Guest Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 No long bed, just a full-width shorty and a stepside. The original issue GMC Sierra was a long wide bed. A short wide bed hasn't been offered in a kit that I'm aware of.
Fabrux Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 In referring to the AMT 72 kits, yes there are long and short versions. In referring to the Revell 64/65 kits, there is only short.
