That looks really good! Nice and clean. I've been thinking about getting this kit, now I think I just might do it.

Does the hood open? Any engine shots? Are those the kit wheels? Did you do anything special to them? Is that a real wood dash I see? I know, too many questions...

Very nicely done. B)

Yes, the bonnet opens, though somewhat precariously and it is not a perfect fit

Sorry will do some finished engine shots and undercarriage.... thought I bored the daylights out of everyone in my build thread

http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=96619&hl=

I did some simpleton wiring in the engine and brakes, my favorite were the last minute chrome headlight wires, though they were not perfectly symmetrical

It is a pretty clean kit build wise, minimal flash, good simple instructions, absolutely no color or detail info at all. I had a reference book on restoring MG's and Google to help with that

I would have wanted to get some finer hinges for the engine covers on the sides, the main one down the middle is ok

The chrome is just fair, a better man would have stripped it and re-chromed

Body fit is fair with a bit of flexing and so wrassling to get it into place

Those are the kit wheels, too thickly sprayed by me.....the spokes are very good for plastic

I remade the dash in wood...have a extra dark one if anyone interested. Harry P, you taught me how to make that in one of your builds!

Thanks to Harry, Bill and Wayne for their comments

Funny I just noticed the period missing after the C on the license plate

I have the Minicraft Jaguar SS100 1/16 kit as well, but I need to do something different and that kit is almost identical to this one

Thanks Bob, I appreciate you following along and the encouragement. I get a little weird and fed up towards the end of a build so you really helped out

I see lots of warts on this British frog, but it is a beastie that has kinda grown on me

I really battled with my airbrush and the paint, so thank you for that comment. It is Tamiya red rattle can paint, no primer :0

I think for my next build, I am going to start with the overall body paint so I can give myself more time and the primer, paint and clear longer cure times

I start a build with the guts of the car was per instructions and not the body, so gonna switch it up for the F40 and see what happens...that will be in the Fujimi community build, post #73

Now for a bit of history lesson.

Many of these little MG's came home with Gi's after WWII and help start the small sports car craze

Here is one with a P51...lovely combo

Some guy named, oh what was it, Carrol Shelby won his first auto races in a buddy's MG

VRLCarrollShelbysMG.jpg

Cool little open sports cars that were very highly modified and somewhat simplistically fun to work on and alter

I would love a real one, bet they were a blast on a twisty road on a sunny morning

Turned out really nice! That dash is outstanding. I would have bought the monogram 1.24th kit ages ago if its wire wheels looked as good as these.

Thanks Peter, appreciate your comment.

I overpainted these wheels in my opinion as I waffled on dull silver vs chrome. So wound up with a third paint layer on them to brighten up and I think got it too thick

Killer.

Well you know how much help and encouragement I received from your keyboard

Thanks

Ok I did some more pics last night of the guts

darn ejector pin mark came through even with putty and textured black paint

There are two brass tubes at the front cross rail I had to add to extend the length of the rail and allow the fenders to sit. I left them brass as I thought it looked kinda cool

Lead foil CA glued down to make exhaust clamps, wire retainers as well

I can't see the brake lines in the photos and I know where they are!!

IMG_0259.jpg

Used brass "u" stock for the rear bumper attachment, aluminum exhaust pipe flared out by hand

The brown thing is a block of styrene bolts I am going to chrome and use on the MG maker's plaque after I get it engraved

I made some wheel chocks out of coffee stirrers and brass so she doesn't roll off the grass

IMG_0254.jpg

Steering linkage out of brass rods on RHS of engine.....just hated leaving the steering column hanging in mid air

oops, bit blurry

IMG_0255.jpg

My dual weber carbs with dual fuel pumps...I am only a poser of a mechanic

IMG_0258.jpg

Thanks for looking guys, sorry no tight close ups with the iPad camera...have a peek at the build thread, the engine is well represented there

I'd say the MG is an excellent warm-up for building an outstanding SS 100. Needs more detail including outer wiring for front and tail lights, and grille modification using real mesh. The up top is not accurate and needs a more antique look. If you really want to be a rivet-counter, it needs more rivets on the fenders. You can also go extra-anal and make the windscreen fold down to see the Brooklands windscreens better.

I need a break from all things British, going to have a little Italian fling for a bit, then a Star wars X-wing dio

The MG and SS kits look almost identical and I might have to go into an asylum if I do another Minicraft so soon

imagejpg2-7.jpg

But, the SS will look good in Wimbledon white paint, real mesh grill with black calf skin interior....I bought the paint Saturday, it is all in the plan

I am sure you will help direct me the correct route when I get there

I am just warming up for those two Alfa Pochers!!

White with red wheels and a red interior is also cool. But be careful of bleeding from the red plastic into the white paint. There are some tutorials here about preventing that.

Great model Scott. The wood dash is perfect, and I for one think the wire wheels came out well. I followed the WIP and I'm glad you stuck with it to the end.

Thanks for the kind words and following along Bruce

We are always our own worst critics....wheels are ok, but if I had them with just primer and one coat they would have been smokin nice

This was a fun build, just hard to stick to it and keep detailing as it gets closer to the end

Anyone else find that? I get sick of it and into a "just get it done" mode

Fixing up the label...it cannot be engraved as the black has already been removed

So need to do black letters on top in the silver rectangle

imagejpg2-10.jpg

Remembered some dry transfers and they worked well. Need to go get #ers for the year

imagejpg1-21.jpg

imagejpg1-22.jpg

I will do a final pic when I get it all done
