Merkur XR4Ti Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) Hi all, I am having a heck of a time trying to replicate the "buttery" tan color of Ferrari's leather interiors. I have tried Tamiya's Deck tan colors (too brownish), and 1:1 auto vinyl paint (too cream-colored). I'm trying to get something close to this pic: I suppose I can try to mix my own but wanted to check to see what tricks you guys use on your builds. The buttery leather color is one I have not been able to match just yet. BTW, for the carbon fiber bits pictured here I'm probably going to use Testor's Gunmetal Metalizer. I've found that in person the grain and color matches carbon fiber pretty closely, and it's a lot easier for me to use paint than to fool around with tiny bits of CF decal. Harry P. Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Take a printout of the photo with you when you go to buy the paint...and match the color as best as you can. I'm sure you can find a color that's pretty close. Personally I'd mix my own. A little brown, some white and a drop of yellow. It would take a little trial and error, but you'll get the color right eventually.
Cornpatch Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Hi Steve: Sometimes maching paint can be a pain in the butt, but as Harry says you can mix your own as I would probley do if I wasnt so lazy. Take a print out of your color to a place like Hobby Lobby and or Michaels and go to the hobby paint section. You will find bottles of Apple Barrel or Americana or Delta Creamcoat or other brands, they are water based acrylic paints. There are literly hundreds of colors to choose from, if you dont find your Buttery tan color in these paints you are going to have to mix your own because it doesnt exsist. Cost for a 2 oz bottle is anywhere between .99 to 1.49. Jeff
CAL Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 stuff like that I will use an acrylic base and artist oils over that.
