I was just wondering how you guys separate you boxes. I got tires with wheels in one drawer and bodies in one, engines in one, parts and peices in another, I will take pics when I get home, I as would everyone else would love to see pics of yours.

And my paint booth doubles as a Drawer unit.

Now this is something that I should think about doing. All my spares end up in whatever box is empty, and then I have to remeber which box I put them in when I need to hunt something down.

Maybe there is something to being organized.....

I bought some nut and bolt organizers for about $5 on sale or so. The drawers are big enough on my bigger one. The other one you see has a couple big drawers and the rest of them are small. So I just organize wheels in one, tires in the other, and wheels with tires in another.

Photo etch and glass as well as all the others each have their own drawer. I also have a 2 drawer storage unit that houses unused/built bodies.

Decals and transfers are stored in 3 ring binders with acid free plastic protector sheets. Kit instructions are saved in a model box.

I use tackle boxes for (the few...) model parts I have organized. I have also got some of those nut and bolt organizers crispy is talking about above my work bench, but haven't started using them yet. I use tackle boxes for the 1:1 car stuff as well, like tools and parts for brakes, electrical, carburetors, interior/upholstery etc. They come in all sizes and shapes, so you can always find something that will work.

Here is one of many. The only one I've photographed. I was only able to get one like this, but I've gotten a lot of others...My mom makes jewelry and their sorting boxes work great for parts boxes.

Unfortunatly the photo is a little washed out..

Top left, going across- The first two are wheels that I don't have a full set of, and wheel backs. Next box is a mixture of stuff, then steering wheels and body parts, then body parts, then the far right box is lowrider parts.

Middle row, left to right-Nothing but valve covers! (and the spare red clear tree from the Johan Olds). The next three are all engine parts. The next one after that is clear parts and lighting pieces. The final box is suspension parts.

Bottom row, left to right-I can't remember what's in the far left box...The Modelhaus 50 Olds grill blocks my view and I havn't used this box in a while! The next box is tubes of all sorts-mostly headers. The next box is full engines, and parts that go specificially to one engine in there. The final three boxes are all different stuff. The final box on the right is mostly empty, I used to have all the little number tabs in there that I've pulled off sprues.

I have another box that's specifically for NASCAR parts, I have one for tires and extra wheels. I bought it full of tires and wheels and havn't really changed it, except to add more parts to it. I have a big tackle box that I put big or relativly useless stuff in, I have several boxes that are empty kit boxes with boxart I'm particulalry pleased with, filled with stuff that's too big for the box I have a photo of above. I also have four more parts boxes that I use to seperate the 1/64 NASCAR models I do. One each for Ford, Chevy and Dodge, and another where I put all the wheels/tires and also the extra 1/64 decal parts. I also use one of the segments there for Olds/Buick/Pontiac (I hardly ever do any of them, so I don't need it much). I also have a Uhaul small box that I put all my aftermarket parts in. It's less then half full, so there's room to expand. LOL!

I feel like I'm forgetting one as well...Hmm....

I use those plastic $1 shoe boxes for all my new aftermarket stuff. I have one that I work out of for opened aftermarket stuff. I look for shipping boxes at work that are a certain size and have a closeable lid. Those get marked accordingly to the contents within.

When I was a kid, I put all extra parts and old builds into this one huge coat box from a department store. It was probably 24" x 24" x 10" deep. That was a virtual junkyard that I kept under my bed.

Seperate? Why would you want to do that? I get most of my ideas while looking through my parts boxs (a steamer trunk and a large plastic bin).

Seperation is pretty basic.

One box for Aircraft

One box for Armor

One box for Cars

That's about the extent of that.

Like you, I use the Sterilite containers for the small stuff. I have 10 of the small ones for model parts, decals and supplies, and one of the big ones for magazines, small books and printer paper.

For the bigger parts, like bodies and chassis', I leave whatever is leftover or spare in the original box, mark it on the side as "Parts Only" and put it out in the garage.

Clay, are you talking about the paint rack?

I have three of them. I only use two and I have one in storage, but it only holds the Testors 1/2 oz. bottles, no sprays. The other two, like the one you see in the pic are for bottles and sprays.

Anyway, When our LHS closed I was able to get a couple of them for myself. I also picked one up at Hobby Lobby for $2 when they re-set their model line.

Yeah I was talking about those, I noticed them because we went to Michaels yesterday and it had one of those. Maybe I should call them and see if they have another one in the back.
