Paul Payne
Does anyone know if a Columbia or similar two speed rear axle unit could be used with a quick change rear end? Has anyone seen this done 1:1?
MonoPed
Revell's '40 Standard Coupe has a Columbia two-speed, but it's not a quick change. Don't know if it's been done in 1:1, but if it's for a model, who cares? Go for it!
Jairus
No offense against MonoPed's point of view but if your plan is to build a replica or correct period street machine then the two engineering wonders never met! The Columbia two-speed and a quick-change center section were never put together due to the placement of the pinion gear. However, if you are building a what-if car... then I happen to agree, GO FOR IT! Here are some plumbing diagrams:
Paul Payne
Jairus, Thanks much for the reference pix! Also, I agree, if it's in a model, anything goes! Maybe the 1:1 guys should have redesigned the pinion location to accept a quick change unit- or vice-versa!
