Swifster Posted July 30, 2013 Share Posted July 30, 2013 OK, I started the build on the first piece of my car hauler. I'm not the fastest builder so I don't know how long this will take. I've also found that this truck used a hybrid air brake system (as modeled). I might try to upgrade the kit to a full air brake system with a compressor. We'll see. I've got the basis frame together, including the hinges for the cab tilt. I just glued the hinges tonight so I'll let it sit until Thursday before hitting it with primer. I'll prime some of the other suspension pieces and wheels at the same time. I'll put some pictures up after the primer coats. I know this model has issues with the cab mounting and the doors. If anyone has suggestions on how to overcome these (other than gluing the doors shut), I'd appreciate it. I would assume that a late 1960's car hauler had full air brakes and a diesel engine for torque. Someone suggested that a Cummins 903 (V8) was in the same engine family as the 555. I'm thinking this is the way to go. The 903 is available in resin. I'll still need front air brakes and a compressor. Are these available in the aftermarket? This is my first HD truck in 35 years. Cassen's Transportation handle Chrysler's deliveries back then (and still do). I sent them an e-mail to see if I could get any pictures of their truck from 'back in the day'. I know their trucks and trailers are orange and the lower frames and accessories are black. This will also be my first shot at weathering something. I hope it turns out...
