Blending rubber and aluminum

Recommended Posts

I'm using Pegasus sleeves for a project, but to get the look I want I need to blend the tire and sleeve to look as one. I figure I will need to epoxy or glue them together but what are some good suggestions for blending them together? Here is a picture of what i'm working with.post-9839-0-58820200-1388951217_thumb.jp

You have quite an interesting problem there, as adhesives have a hard time bonding well to both the tire material and the aluminum. To get a clean "blend" you'll need something that adheres to BOTH materials well so you can get a good feather-edge after sanding.

Interesting problem. I'll be interested in the responses to this one.

Anyone have any experience with Loctite Super Glue ULTRA Gel?

My experiences with super glues and aluminum are that the aluminum would take on a frosted appearance from the chemicals in CA. I would think that an epoxy would be a better choice.

Have sleeves custom machined with tread on them. You'll have the only one on the contest table, guaranteed. Maybe find resin tires of the right outside diameter and machine the inside to the right diameter.
