Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?
gregbbear replied to whale392's topic in Community Builds
If it isn't too late, I'd like to join too. I would like to enter an IMSA Fox. I've got a few of 'em in the stash. I just have to pick out which one! Cheers, Greg -
I had to comment on this one. That is one of the coolest funny cars, scratch that, coolest cars period I have seen on this site, or any others for that matter! I've never built a funny car before, but I am certainly inspired! Thank you for sharing, and I too am a big fan of your products (and your great customer service). Regards, Greg

Hey Jody, sorry about the lay-off. Luckily, the economy hasn't hit San Antonio that much, yet. I thought you lived in Sevierville? Man, that must have been hard to give up. Tennessee is beautiful. I imagine that a lot of Sevierville's economy is tourist based though. Good luck. Regards, Greg

If I block out the weird wing arrangement, not bad! With it, well...... Thanks for the update! I agree with Curt though, if they make it in plastic, I will buy it ( and maybe eventually, hopefully, build it!). Regards, Greg

If you still need the decals, I have a set of the stock Revell Challenger T/A that I have extra. If you want them, just let me know. Cheers, Greg

Subaru is out!
gregbbear replied to Scalefinishes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What a shame about Suburu... Makes you wonder what the state of motorsports would be if Fox hadn't bought Speedvision, hmm.... As for racecars resembling cars, there is series called American Iron. It is a series based on production Mustangs, Camaros, and Firebirds sanctioned by NASA. There are three classes with different levels of modification. With weight, and hp/wt ratios limited by rules, plus a spec tire and wheel size, costs are kept down. I've only read about it in Hot Rod, and the different Mustang mags. Grass Roots Mototsports has a sentence or two here and there. Other than not enough domestic content for me, GRM is a good mag. Oh yeah, www.maximummotorsports.com has some in-car footage of their "shop car" at Willow Springs. I highly recommend watching these clips. I haven't looked in youtube, but I think I will. The AI cars are a showcase for the aftermarket. If they would only televise it! We have a whole channel devoted to the automobile, and all we get is stupid bling shows! Check it out. Cheers, Greg -
All I can say is "wow"". Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to the updates! Cheers, Greg

Revell Discontinuing NASCAR Model Kits
gregbbear replied to larrygre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think way too much of this has been made personal. It seems to me that most of us that are happy with the Revell decision are long time fans who feel betrayed by nascar. I feel the same way about goodyear. That doesn't mean that I'm not going to like cars with goodyears on them. It means that I don't like the model industry being held hostage by greed. Especially since they are doing further advertising for the product anyways! As for no love for nascar models, that just simply isn't accurate. I wish F1, indy's, ALMS, etc got a fraction of the "love". Please don't mistake distaste for corporate greed for distaste of your models. Cheers, Greg -
Revell Discontinuing NASCAR Model Kits
gregbbear replied to larrygre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, I am with you 100%!!! Hopefully, this will free up some of Revell's money for other things. Hopefully, the new AMT will stay away from them too. They (nascar) have certainly forgotten what original fan base got them where they are. I think that the economy is going to be very bad for them. Unfortunately, it will probably be so for the kit manufacturers too. Seeing the gobs of nascar kits, and decals that go unsold on ebay everyday doesn't say much to me about their ability to sell well. Vintage drag on the other hand, that seems to be selling some kits. On ebay anyways. Revell's anouncement is something that they should have done a few years ago. I hope that they continue with their "special edition" kits. They seem to be on to something. The little extras go a long way! I hope that some of the nascar money can go to adding to this line. Just my two cents. Regards, Greg -

Nigel Mansell without his big mustache!!!! Now, if I could only afford one of those old Tamiya BTCC cars...... Cool stuff, thanks. Greg -
Awesome! I've been really enjoying your build thread for this. I never saw the show, but I read the article in Racer. They did an artist rendering of the Williams in Dupont colors and vice versa for the Monte Carlo. Pretty cool stuff. Cheers, Greg

Interesting.......
gregbbear replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is an interesting topic. I hadn't really thought of that comparison before. In my mind I am always saying how much better F1 and WRC hotshoes are to the NASCAR types here. The physical and mental demands are so much greater for both. I am not saying that the NASCAR drivers don't have to have endurance, but... seriously, could you see Jimmy Spencer or Ken Schrader in an F1 or WRC car? Pondering this, I don't think I could give a clear cut nod to either one. Beyond the physical conditioning, the reflexes, split second decision making, and fantastic car control, what else is there? Everything else is just the differences between the two classes/sports, ie co-drivers, terrain, technology etc. Both are underappreciated and under-covered here in the good ole US of A. Maybe Obama can bail out the USGP, and move it to Long Beach. That is change we need! Regards, Greg -
It was an exciting race!!! I love how the rain is such a great wild card. Lil 'ol Minardi is starting to shine as STR. Maybe RoG will make us a nice little STR to build? Congrats to Massa for the race win, and the Scuderia for the Constructor's Championship, and Hamilton for the Driver's Championship. I am already looking forward to next season. Rules in constant flux has always been the case for F1, so nothing new there. As for no Canadian Grand Prix, very disappointing, I can't believe Bernie is not going to bring his show to north america at all now. I'll watch anyways... Along with sports cars, touring cars, etc etc.... Cheers, Greg

That is a sweet build! I have been eyeing the new re-release too. I love all of those DTM cars, but wouldn't it be nice if they re-released some of the BTCC cars too? Again, that J-meister car is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Regards, Greg

This weekends Petit LeMans
gregbbear replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am green with envy! Well, at least I live closer than 30 minutes from the Alamo (lah tee dah). If you could please, tell Kevin that his company is fantastic. They are by far my favorite dealer. His service is great too. Have a fun and safe time. Regards, Greg -
Singapore Grand Prix
gregbbear replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nooo!!! Not back to the Alesi/Barnard days. I did see Todt in the paddock at Singapore. It must of been gut wrenching for him. It sure was for me. Although, I think that Kimi and Massa are way better than Alesi ever was, and without the severe ego problem too. I rooted for Gerhard during that era. I don't think the tifosi, me included, are going to stand for a repeat of the lean years. Thanks for the Petite Lm info Cal. Looks like a ###### good line up! Cheers, Greg -
Singapore Grand Prix
gregbbear replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What a spectacle despite my disappointment with Ferrari. Massa was doing an incredible job, truly the class of the field. Hamilton even admitted that he had ran his tires down trying to keep up/ over driving the car. What could've been???? But, that is racing. Also rans seem to change the outcome of many races, in all series. I do think that the race organizers need to do a better job of clearing wrecks. They should take some notes from Monaco. If I wanted to watch safety car parades, I'd watch NASCAR! Too bad it didn't rain, that evens the odds ( ie Sutil at Monaco). The above paragraph sounds negative, sorry. I thoroughly enjoyed the race. F1 is truly the pinnacle. Petite Lemans next weekend! Yeah! Cheers, Greg -
Hey Clay, rumor has it that you like tater tots. I got that from a good source. It seems that there is a french fry conspiracy on this board. Don't worry, as another old Marine on this board, I got your back too. Cheers, Greg

Just too cool!!! I love it.

Monza F1 Qualifying results
gregbbear replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I agree. I think Hamilton will take out somebody in a big way. I have no doubt he is going to mess up late braking in Singapore, and take someone out. I just hope it isn't someone in contention. As for being Senna like, I am sorry the Senna got killed, but his taking out Prost and Ferrari's championship, was deliberate and unconscionable. I could see him doing something like that. F1 doesn't need to go down that path again. Save it for NASCAR. Yes, I know that I am a hypocite because I believed Schumacher's loss of control that took out Damon Hill in Australia (the pos RoG kit that I am trying to de-turdify). So, it'll still be early a.m. for the Singapore race. 6:30 in the a.m. for us cst types. I'm sure it'll be well worth it! Cheers, Greg -
Monza F1 Qualifying results
gregbbear replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What did I say about STR last week? I was off the mark on the team! Thankfully I was right about the drivers. I love it when the little guy wins! CAL is right about Hamilton. I think that he will mess up in Singapore. I may be way off base, but if they are right that late braking will be the way to pass, then my money is on that Ham will overdrive the car. As much as I miss Schumacher, this has been a great season. Ferrari just needs to accept it, Massa is their top driver. I look forward to him capturing the crown. I know, it isn't a done deal, but hey, you gotta have confidence in your team!!! Cheers, Greg -
Factory Corvette Switches to GT2 in 2010
gregbbear replied to Brendan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rolex: good racing with gross cars. Some legacy driver's too. Names like Donohue and Gurney, and they are good in their own right. The DP's are just butt ugly though. I really like the ALMS though. There were some great Audi-Porsche battles this year. As for the GT1 class, it would have been nice for more competition, because I really like the class. It would have been sweet if Ford would've put a GT in the ring. I read somewhere that there might be some racing in FIA GT2 though. It would be nice if the Japanese would step up to the plate. Imagine GT-R, or an NSX racing the Vettes.... There was a really cool NSX that raced in the Speedvision GT, and it was cool! I can dream, right? How about Mustangs in GT2? Later, Greg -
To my friends in Texas: RE: Ike
gregbbear replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thankfully, we are getting spared here in San Antone. There is a ton of overtime for us fire guys if we want to work evac shelters though. I used to live in Galveston, and that town isn't going to exist by tomorrow. My prayers go out for those in Ike's path. Any Houston area modelers heading this way drop me a line. Take care. Greg
