Wow I'm Loving this build Claude !
The roof design is genius, and the rear end treatment really suits the build.
I'm also impressed the way you built the floor, and diffusers !
Wild Charger, wish I'd built this one myself !
-
Great job on your 64, really nice kit to build isn't it ?
You even got the front steering arms together, I gave up on my last 64 build there really fiddly to do, well done !
-
Looking good Bill, looks like you got plenty of spares there body wise !
I've seen you use sprue goo before , is this used as filler ? Something I've never tried ??
-
Great Idea Claude, thank you for the suggestion, this part is next on the list to make !
-
Thanks for the input Gents !
Ive been concentrating getting the main parts together, before fussing over the details. Im using a new floor, new suspensions, new engine, new wheelbase and radically altered suspension height. So nothing fits !
I started by fitting the engine, replaced the now shortened front chassis rails in a new position, then new engine mounts.
Inside a sharpie pen was cut up and used for the gearbox hump and a tube used for the prop cover. This will be carpeted next.
New chassis rails, with a new gearbox mount, ( including holes for the exhaust to pass through )
Front crossmember was just too narrow so i had to split it and mount it on a new crossmember.
Ive also rebuilt the firewall, again, to close the gap more around the gearbox.
Needs a panel to finish off the gearbox / firewall area, but I can't find anything yet that I can use for this ?
All painted black for now, i should have taken pics before the painting ! ! -
Body's coming along well, look forward to more on this !
Very cool car to base this from, love seeing hot rods in bare steel i wouldn't paint it at all !
-
The best bodywork I've seen on models ALWAYS looks so easy, but this proves it needs a surgeon to do it well !
You should be DR Kit, great explanation and very clear pics, thanks for sharing !
-
Ah, Kit Karson, master of the chopped up hot rod ! !
Great seeing a new build from you, excellent chop as usual your cutting is so precise ! !
Carry on Brother !
-
Thanks guys !
Claude, love your magoo build, incredible details !
Michael, your 33 looks very cool, you should continue with it !!
Thanks Sonny it's funny how this style of 33/34 coupes never get built ! I don't remember seeing any finished cars like this ?
Maybe their cursed, hope not I'm hoping to finish this one day !
Thanks Rob but I'll try the resin set i showed earlier first. This is very fragile so I might end up looking for new A arms to use.. ?

Hi Martin!
Now, THIS is an iconic car. The one who started the whole "smooth look" in contemporary rods. And you seem to have the rake/proportions right in your mock-up. Nice.
Do you plan to scratchbuild the IFS, or aim to transplant something?
The closest thing to the delicate scale required might be the Buttera's tall coupe IFS.
Monogram had one in the 37 sedan street-rod, and AMT in the Phantom Vicky, but both (nice units) are a smidge too "massive" in the a-arm department, IMHO.
Just curious...

Oh and thanks Claude. This is the independant front suspension i ordered ( i have a rear set too) Lots of clean up needed but it should be ok, ive only done the front crossmember so far......
-
Either way i go, i still cant figure out the front end. It needs to be low enough for the engine and rad, high enough for the independant front crossmember. Oh and wide enough for the headers !
So i cut this off again, cut a big hole, and fitted an engine, a smallblock from the spares box !
New firewall fitted, and i might now try a tube front and rear chassis... ?

So pleased to see more progress on this, such a crazy concept and the skill you have to build it is just incredible !
At the shows your lucky they dont drug test competitors , you`d be jumped on for entering this ! ?
-
Wow what a project !
I'm loving this, great imagination I'm so impressed how you can use the aircraft parts !
I was going to suggest turning the fuselage sides upside down and using the cockpit opening as a wheel arch !
Bit late maybe ? Good luck with this I'll be looking out for future progress. !
-
Great work with the chop !
The picture of that cherry red chopped merc above blew me away, looking forward to more progress on yours !
-
Fantastic bodywork , I'm loving this !
Funny I noticed a vague 'predicta' look to it too, you've nailed the look alright !
Have you considered vertical twin headlamps ?
-
Thanks guys !
David, regarding the grill, i think its a bit too slanted looking at my new mock up, and once its up on suspension it wont be this low.... hopefully it will all fit ok !
Thanks Oliver, 3 beautiful builds there, im looking forward to your Vern clone !

Keep on!

Thanks for the interest Claude, as far as im aware ( web research ! ) the original coupe went to Australia. It is kept pristine (and driven !) by its new owner and was slightly revamped.
The wheels at the top, the straight 5 spokes, are not original. These were added later. I should have noticed and used an original pic !
If you look at this pic these are the original Boyd wheels, and the wheels im using are as close as i can find. Ive had them for years, saved especially for this build !

Wow !
It's one thing getting ideas and inspiration, it's another actually building it !
Incredible build mate, love the record player and the lights take it up another level !
-
Lot of work of that body so far, but you'd never guess !
beautiful flames too, an unusual choice of colours but it works for me !
-
Thankyou guys !
Claude, there is an aftermarket front independant set up, available in the UK that i may need to invest in !
And Paul, yes its fragile all right. Im getting all the main parts together now, then ill go back and clean it all up ! When its bodywork time i`ll look at it then, but thanks i`ll bear it in mind !
I realised something needed drastically changing with the chassis, the front rails were way too low and the side rails were too high in the interior.
So i had to add a Z section in, and i chose just below the firewall. This also lengthens the front rails which helps ..
The lower half of the firewall was removed too to fit the chassis up higher , i`ll rebuild this later, and a smooth firewall !
I also didnt like seeing any of the chassis from the side so ive curved the bottom of the rails so they cant be seen. After adding a 1mm strip, the boot fits too, got to be hinged next...
Added pieces to the hood sides to support the grill, and its starting to fit together better now, more interior space and room for a sump and exhausts !
-
Love where this is going, looks like a 60s custom, something spaceship like !
Look forward to more crazy body mods, hope your stocked up on filler ! !

Hi guys..
Been away from the models for a while, just got fed up ! But Ive always wanted to build the Vern Luce 33 Ford and this has inspired me to start it !
Now im not going for an exact replica, but a heavily influenced car shall we say !
Starting with the ZZ top kit ive spent a few years trying to find one, this came over from the USA !
As with most of my builds first thing was cutting bits up !
Ive opened up the door, going to be hinged , then switched to the chassis. It s chopped about but I still might end up scratch building this, but were see...First heres Verns 1933 Coupe.....

Congratulations on completing this very unique build !
I wouldn't know where to start building a car from scratch, an ingenious method to use !
You must be proud to have finally completed it, well done !
