Toner283 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 While looking for where I could buy spaz stix chrome somewhere local to me, I ran across "MGM Hobby Super Magic Powder" prime electroplating powder. While the spaz stix mirror chrome looks good, when compared side by side with the MGM powder, the spaz stix looks like shiny silver paint. The MGM powder also seems very simple to use. The problem I have run into is finding a source for the powder or even finding any current information on this product. Pretty much everything that I have been able to find is at least a year old. A lot of information is 2 plus years old. Possibly someone with internet ninja skills could find more than me but I have hit a wall, getting the same results for each different search terms that I enter. I would like to try this stuff out but that will be hard to do if I cannot find any to try. My question is, Does anyone know any current information for MGM Magic Powder? Has it been deemed dangerous and removed from the market? Did it stop being made for some reason? Any information would be welcomed. Thanks.
Roncla Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) It sounds like its a similar product to C1 Metalizer and Kosutte Gin San. I have both of those here and while they can give a true chrome shine both have a tint according to the color of the gloss base you rub them in to. I can replicate the shine of kit chrome but I've never matched the colour. This thread covers it well http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28780 I don't think Kosutte Gin San is currently available but C1 Metalizer is available direct from their website. http://www.c1-models.com/c1-metalizer/ This video compares Kosutte Gin San with MGM powder Edited April 5, 2015 by Roncla
Toner283 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 That is good news. C1 models is on the vendors list for NNL East in a couple of weeks. I will have to pick up a can of that metalizer. In the pictures it looks pretty good (appears very chrome-like) when applied over a metallic blue basecoat. Hopefully it is just as good when viewed in person. Also I am interested to see if it can be handled much or at all without being worn away or transferring onto a persons hands.
