1974 Duster Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 I have the Salvino’s Hawaiian Tropic Monte Carlo and I would like to know what red I could use for it
Bill J Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 The real car was painted with Ford candy apple red. It is NOT a candy paint, it is just called candy apple red and is a plain, non metallic, none candy Ford color used in the 60's. A good close match would be Tamiya Italian red over Tamiya grey primer. The For4d color is still a little darker but the Tamiya Italian red over grey is close. NOT Testor's Italian red, it is not even close.
MarkJ Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 just looked at a ref picture of the real car and it looks like Steve nailed it perfectly. Kind of a darker red then usual.
Bill J Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Yep, a darker than normal red. That is also what Ford candy apple red looks like. You would get about the same result with a number of paints. Pretty car for it's simplicity.
