1:8 1984 Corvete

I see this kit on eBay a lot, and I had one that I returned because I received it in trashed condition from the seller, but I have never, ever seen a built version. Has anyone done it?

I finished the engine and part of the interior, then lost interest. That was about 15 years ago! Haven't touched it since, probably never will.

I know that doesn't give you what you're looking for.. but hey, at least I feel better after confessing!

It's actually an 1985 Vette. I have one but have not built it yet. I have it because I had a real 85 Vette.

Really nice kit, typical of Monogram 1/8th kit series: Mostly accurate, simple assemblies: easy to built & really nice when finished. Nice simple kit that looks real sharp....Much better parts fitting then MPC 1/16th '84 Vette! ('84-'85 model year: pretty much the same)...Later Monogram 1/8th scale were really nice kits:('78 Vette, '79-'80 Trans AM, '82 Vette,'82 Z28, '85 IROCZ & Vette) super easy to make & stunning when completed, even OOB.

Bought mine back in 1989 at local Toys-R-Us far about $39 (loooong gone!), when they had tons of kits on shelves... back then!!! Was the last, brand "new" 1/8th scale tool back then ('85 IROCZ was based on the '82 Z28).Gone since early 90's, never reissued:(tought it would come back when'85 IROCZ 1/8th kit came back e few years ago).

Go for it, nice kit, got one mint on eBay for real cheap.

When our daughter was born, my wife and I turned my 1:1 85 Vette into a Ford Taurus. A few years later, she gave me the 1:8 model for Christmas to ease the pain.

I bought a used kit a long time ago. It was untouched but the body was warped where the windshield was could not finish it. I wish I could find a good 1/8 1979 Trans Am. The detail that can be done on a big scale is amazing.

They're out there, check eBay, emodelcars and craigslist. Just keep searching, since they do tend to ask ridiculous prices for them. I've gotten the trans-am Turbo through a swap through this forum and it is a nice kit.

Actually, I am closing a deal at this moment of 3 '79 Firebirds from one person. I am quite happy with it, since you hardly see them in Europe and I only have to pay 150 Euro's for all three

I got mine two years ago in an Antique store of all places, for $18 plus tax, sorry there was only one in the store. I am saving mine to rob engine & suspension pieces for a future '32 Roadster build, (one of the three of those I haven't opened yet.

I got all 5 1/8th kits for about $115 and still have them. I bought the Corvette, a big Golden T, a '79 Pontiac Trans Am, an '82 Corvette and a Big Deuce '32 Ford Roadster. I have since found another unbuilt '32 Deuce at a local thrift store for $20.00. Both are in black plastic and I will build one without fenders. I want to build the Corvette but will wait until I can't see or handle the small parts in the 1/25 kits anymore. Plus I have to find shelf space for these big models. Those large kits will probably be the last kits I build in my reclining years of model building. Hope I am still at home when that happens and not in a home. Wish me luck. Patrick M

"Reclining"?, or "Declining", if you're reclining it might be a bit hard to do some of the things, & your arms will get tired very quick.

I built one Box Stock and painted it to match my 84 vette. The kit is a 85. It is in my closet someplace as well as a punch of extras I got from ebay. I have parts left over from a Lindberg !/8 dragster set I plan to use and try some major body customizing. But the kit is easy to build.

Yep! Me too. started one years ago to replicate my brothers '84. Got it ready for paint and he never would send the TU bottle of paint for it after it was repainted. Mine sits in the storage unit since I moved here, and his sits in his driveway up on jack stands.

I've had a couple of these sitting on the shelf for years. It's actually a nice kit with lots of parts that are great for kitbashing if you don't build the whole car. I was thinking of trying to reshape the body to make a copy of my '91 ZR-1 but just never got started. Recreating the LT5 DOHC engine was going to be a real challenge, too.

I built one a long time ago and it was a great kit. Had a little problem with a warped hood but it still looked pretty good. I never took any pics of it before I sold it. I love some of these amazing builds posted here.

Awesome jobs guys, I am in the process of building this 1985 Corvette kit. Anyone have any tips for the windshield? I am having a tough time fitting it into place as it may have shrunk or deformed over the years, thanks in advanced.

I hope someone will see this old thread! I am working on an old 1/8 1985 Corvette kit I bought off eBay some time ago. It’s missing the top radiator shroud, shown in assembly step 5. 
 

if anyone has that part and doesn’t need it, for any reason, or even might supply some good photos and a few dimensions I might use to fabricate a new one, I’d appreciate it!
