Tony T Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 This one is well underway, but not quite done. Built from the Revell Convertible kit. Body bits out of the box Tamiya brush paints used. Gloss black with a wide soft horse hair brush. Interior Dash, interior panels, wheels same, and one of the bumpers I haven't taken any more pictures, but have started on the motor, and made a set of taillight side reflectors that weren't in the kit, like on this car. I still have to scratch a pair of 1970 only rear bumper bracket mounted reflectors like these: Enjoy! I'll post updates when I can!
envious8420 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 makes me wanna dig the drag bug build out and work on it. yours is looking fantastic!
Tony T Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 Thanks, Jim! Get that drag bug back on the bench! Here are a couple of update pictures. Here are the rear side "reflectors" I made:
Greg Cullinan Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 IMHO you can't go wrong with triple black vert. Its what I wanted on my 1/1 but I ended up with white with double black! Still mulling having the body painted. Looks good, thanks
B_rad88 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 wow, that looks nice! i love the triple-black vert! and is that the whole engine? wow thats small! LOL! can't wait to see it finished.
Tony T Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 Thanks! I really like the triple black! That is not the whole engine, but the long-block, so no exhaust or intake yet.
Tony T Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 A bit of progress - Motor in, wheels on, rear bumper, and bracket mounted 1970 only 'reflectors' on, front fogs mounted to the bumper.
Nick Winter Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 A bit of progress - Motor in, wheels on, rear bumper, and bracket mounted 1970 only 'reflectors' on, front fogs mounted to the bumper. Looks good, Were exactly is Greely?
VW Dave Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I still can't believe that body was brush painted...looks great!! The '69-72 taillight reflectors are a neat touch as well(my 1:1 '68 doesn't have them, but my '69 did).
Tony T Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Nick - Thanks, and Greely is in the south end of Ottawa, Ontario (Canada's Capital). Dave - Thanks! It just didn't look right without them!
Nick Winter Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Nick - Thanks, and Greely is in the south end of Ottawa, Ontario (Canada's Capital). Dave - Thanks! It just didn't look right without them! Ok Tony I'm in Whitby East of Toronto (Ontario's Capital).
george 53 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I still can't believe that body was brush painted...looks great!! The '69-72 taillight reflectors are a neat touch as well(my 1:1 '68 doesn't have them, but my '69 did). Man Tony, I gotta agree with Dave, For a BRUSH painted body, that rascal sure did come out GREAT! I once hadda Yellow 70 "Super Bug" as a work car. When I'd go over the Rouge River Briidge,on I-75 ,here in Deeetroit, I'd feel the wind tryin ta make me change lanes! It also was REALLY trippy when a big ol 18 wheeler would pass me, Combine both of those events AT THE SAME TIME, an I ended up sellin it just to get a HEAVIER CAR!!! Ended up with a 70 Chevy Impala, and no more lane changein problems!
B_rad88 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 wow, thats ultra smooth paint work! that looks sweet! nice job so far! and hey george, i know that feeling with being pushed around the highway, when i had a little geo metro, i got pushed around every where on the highways and the bridges! lol, it didn't help having 12in rims with skinny tyres, lol! and also it didn't help having a 3cyl, with 55hp of doom! LOL!!!! but i had alot of fun in that car! i regreat selling it, i want to get another one! LOL
george 53 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Bri, I can DEFINATELY relate! Ya know it was the ONLY foreign car I EVER owned! Very well built AND dependable too. That rascal started up in ZERO degree weather!Heater left ALOT ta be desired, but THAT (and it's weight) was it's only flaw! In fact it was the SAME color yellow as the one Tony pictured!
Eshaver Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Dave , first your efforts are first rate ! Second and I don't mean anything negative as I saw this on so many 1-1 Volkswagens but will you be " Rusting out " the heater boxes at the exaust manifolds ? Ed Shaver
Tony T Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 Ed, I'll assume you are talking to me (unless you like Dave's work, too! )...thanks, and I haven't decided, but I may put a touch of rust on the heater boxes! I think they were rusty when new! George-I can remember that when my parents had a couple of Beetles back in the day. Dad went from a Beetle to a '67 Galaxie convertible! I've got a 1:1 '67 WIP in my garage.
