  1. Does anyone (resincasters, etc.) make accurate M/T big-block Chevy valve covers? The ones in the AMT dirt Modifieds and (very old and expensive) AMT Funny Hugger II Funny Car are much too small and of incorrect shape. I have a pair of the real thing in my garage and nothing comes close..... I build models of old ('60s, '70s) asphalt Modifieds from the Northeast (www.Turn5Photo.com, www.vintagemodifieds.com) and the engines are mostly exposed -- "ya can't fake it." Thanks, John
  2. I used to use brake fluid until it made one of my resin-cast bodies rubbery and turned a scratchbuilt Plastruct rollcage into a pile of limp pasta. Thanks for the tip on putting a lid on the Castrol Super Clean -- NOW I KNOW!! How about good old Testor's gloss black bottle paint? I frequently buy "glue bombs" on Ebay so I can cut them up and re-use them (usually for '60s-'70s asphalt Modifieds from the Northeast). I have tried just about everything, but cannot find something that works on this. (And I just bought a Monogram Tijuana Taxi and it looks like a pre-teen dipped it in a vat of Testor's paint -- no detail visible! Might have to use an air chisel! LOL)
  3. I have used EasyOff oven cleaner for removing chrome quickly, but I do not like the fumes or residue. Just tried Greased Lightning and it worked well on some old (AMT '67) plastic that had a light coating of Testor's green spray paint.
  4. I always use white automotive primer in a can. It protects the plastic and does not tint the paint (or bleed through). Have you ever shot Grabber Orange over gray auto primer?
  5. Here's mine (yes, I'm dreaming): Stock 1936 (not '37) Chevrolet coupe; and any kit that has ACCURATE, CORRECTLY-SHAPED-AND SIZED Mickey Thompson (M/T) big-block Chevy valve covers (no one has done this yet -- not even close!). As you can see, I am easy to please but I am not holding my breath.
  6. I could be wrong, but would this be Monogram's "Poison Pinto?" Have you tried searches on Ebay?
