Many thanks for the very kind words everyone Crazyjim - for the welds I stuck a thin strip of green stuff along the seam, and pushed small indentations into it (like welds). Airbrushed the strip (and the surrounding panels) black. I then picked out the actual weld in a steel colour paint (Vallejo air metallics steel) and finally gave the metal a black wash (GW nulen oil wash). It's a quick and easy method to get great looking results. -
Glad it's finished, well unless I decide to add more to the base. But it's mighty fine feeling to have it finished at last. http://www.coolminiornot.com/342182 http://www.puttyandpaint.com/projects/2933

Thanks guys! Lol, you would believe the problems I've had painting that zombie, parts of him have been repainted at least four times to get him to a point where I'm happy. He's from a company called Dark World Creations (they've recently released a couple of 2000ad figures too). http://www.darkworldcreations.com/

Hi, Finally I've made it back, a great deal later than I'd like but I got caught up painting a zombie dude that I had some difficulty with. There's a close up picture of him at the bottom. However, I'm creating a VW van post apocalypse zombie killing machine. It's being built out of two different kits, using my favourite bits from each. It's making things a little more difficult than normal but I think it will be worth it in the long run. There's been quite a lot of fettling to get everything to fit. Most isn't glued yet so some things are missing (like the dashboard) or are just wonky. However I'm starting to see where I want to go - I'm going to add some anti-zombie protection too. John

Hi Tyler, Thanks There isn't really a story other than just throwing a few parts together to give her context in crossing a crime scene do not cross line (they're blue and white in the uk). I've sold a couple and of pieces last year and given a few away but really it's just for fun. I pick up the base parts from all sorts of places on this base there; soil from my back garden, flowers from mininatur, milliput, bricks from somewhere (picked them up at a show), gate and pillar from Forged Monkey (although its not on their website yet) and brass etch from Hasslefree.

Hi All, I've been a little absent of late as I've been working on some non-car related things one of which is a little lady that I thought I would share. The first picture is for scale the rest are a little closer. Ah, before I forget the next project is going to be a VW zombie apocalypse related, of course I'll be sharing it with you Oh and I finished this dude too - John

Beautiful work DC! I really like how the mud and dirty on the tyres turned out. I remember you saying you spent a day on them, I certainly paid off! -
Ah, I just spotted the video, Thanks so much Dr, I love it!

Many thanks everyone, your fine comments are very cool. Regarding the front end I used the hair spray method - first I payed down a mottled coat of rust colours, browns blacks and oranges to give it a natural look rather than being uniform. I then sealed that with a clear matt coat ( testors dullcoat) to give it some protection from the next couple of stages. Hair spray (being challenged in that area myself means that I had to make a special purchase) was then used to cover it in a thin layer. I then sprayed the whole area grey but kept it uniform, some areas were think others so thin you could see the brown underneath. Using warm water and a stiff brush I then wore the grey paint away in a random pattern just leaving enough to still some grey and some brown. The hairspray acts as a sacrificial barrier that almost melts away under some warm water and scrubbing. I then used a white soft pencil to do the chalk marks. Using some orange colours and a sponge I enhanced the rust effects in a few locations and then painted a few streaks as well. For the welds I sprayed very thin lines of black over each seam, then painted the actual weld silver and finally applied a thinned wash of black paint along the seam (to settle in the low spots). Phew, sounds like a pain when written out but it's one of those things you do where the results are very satisfying to see step by step.
