    A first for me when building model cars, is that I added a black wash (citadel paints/games workshop's nuln oil) to the door/panel gaps to add some detail. A minor detail but as I'm older now (25) Im using what I've learnt over the years and from painting warhammer 40k.

    This is revells kit straight out the box. Got it for xmas when it first came out (!) After numerous attempts at spraying it I put it away until a couple months ago. I some fairy power spray to strip the pain of, and after a good sand it was good enough to paint. There were several layers of paint on it!
    Body colour is a ford colour and the interiror is citadel paints skull white with bleached bone aka cream tuck n roll. Theres a few scuffs on it as i dropped something and it got hit :( The fender skirts didnt want to sit right either. Oh well its done and on the shelf. I'd do a better job if I got the kit again. I had everything except the body painted years a go and added the cream to the tuck n roll more recently to add come detail to the interior. I also bare metal foiled the window trims.

    Rust T phaeton- Built at the weekend.

    Having been laid of (again!!!) on Tuesday last week, I was fed up of sulking so decided to get back on the workbench. I needed a break from foiling my catalina 421SD so decided to make something out of this model T phaeton. I got the kit of ebay, knowing the hot rod parts were gone. I had planned to use the body to make a lakester/modified out of it but it never happened. The kit was missing the steering arms/wishbones, steering column, steering wheel and the soft top had been chopped along with the screen. So I decided to make a barn fins out of it.
    I used citadel paints and the salting technique again. I got some brown spray from games workshop (mournfang brown) and chaos black spray was the top colour. On top of the brown spray I used agrax earhshade and nuln oil washes to darken it, then stippled and dry brushed skrag brown and a tiny bit of troll slayer orange to create the rust.
    Water and salt was then applied, allowed to dry then chaos black sprayed on for the top colour. I used a sponge (the green top bit) to remove the salt and further dull the black.
    The "chrome" was first stripped with oven cleaner spray (fast and effective) of the headlight rings and bumpers. I then used revell steel as a base colour, followed by a wash of nuln oil, then stippled my rust colours on. The interior was brown spray again washed down with agrax earhshade and nuln oil, and a wash of reikland fleshshade to help darken and add some brown back to the colour. I then dry brushed steel legion drab on the interior to help add detail as the interior was all one piece with little detail. I could have created depth using colour but that would have taken ages, and it was to be a quick build. I also added sand using pva to the underside to simulate dirt accumulated from driving.
    A first for me was using a lighter to heat the tyres then press down on a hard surface (the vice in the garage) to simulate squared tyres as result of having been sat for a while. On one wheel, some spokes snapped, on another a couple melted, all adding to the illusion of an ancient car. I used this to my advantage, the idea being its had a slight unexpected venture of road....
    I plan to make a diorama once I can afford to buy some balsa wood..

    69 Ford Torino Talladega

    Got my act together and took advantage of the hot weather,(even if it did rain of the drag racing at santa pod at the weekend!!!) and my better understanding of spray paint/paint prep, and having a break from painting warhammer 40k.
    This is built straight out the box, is missing a couple of parts I dropped and haven't found yet, but its done and on the shelf. The interior is black, the engine is blue with chrome rover covers. Nothing special. The body is ford burgandy red and the hood is chaos black spray (undercoat from games workshop, on top of primer of course)
    I painted the wheels so they weren't just chrome. I started by painting black in inbetween the sqaure holes as a base, then a dark metal colour, followed by a black wash, then the same colour leaving the now darker colour arround the edges, then a lighter metal colour down the middle of that (make sense?)
    I used citadel paints from games workshop for a lot of it, including wheels and interior. (Games workshop aka Warhammer paints- I'm familiar with them, they mix easy, water based.) Engine and exhaust were revell paints.
    Its also the first time I used bare metal foil on a model. Its a bit rough round the edges in places but it looks ok and I'm getting better at it.

    I have a revell '49 merc kustom in colour, the body just needs to cure then be attached to the chassis and also a '62 pontiac catalina 421SD in primer with the chassis assembled and interior painted, hopefully get that sprayed this weekend. Lets clear the to-do pile of a few years!! KEEP THE HOT WEATHER COMING!!!

    57 Ford Tudor mild custom

    Hi, after a break I;m back on the cars after also getting back into gamesworkshop models.

    I plan to get many unfinished builds done as they've been sat for a couple years. Im 24 this year and need to catch up and finally get my skills to what i know i can do.

    I got an idea in my head and started buying kits for the parts. One of them was the Revell 57 ford custom/tudor. I originally planned to steal many parts from it but i think I'm just gonna' try and get another one.

    First i tunnelled the rear lights by cutting out the centre of the wing-ends so the light lenes sit on the profile left by revell :D At this point i also filled where the handles and badges would go as well as some panel gaps.

    the headlights will be tunneled also, done by leaveing the stock bezel in the box and dropping the chrome piece and lense into the opening. Simple but effective.

    I then got some whitewalls free which are the new AMT ones that are very nice as well as some hubcaps, which I am told come from an AMT 53 corvette. I like them because they are different and look great. And like the tyres were free :D

    This allowed me to hit the car with the lowering stick.

    First i had to cut away the curved profile of the inner fender as it would not let the tyre up into it. I will use plastic to take the engine bay sides back to the firewall like my Dad's 1:1 57 Fairlane 500 did (he has a 66 pontiac ventura now) Then I drilled a couple holes in the spindles and BOOM nice and low.(dropped spindlles :D)

    For the rear, i cut the profile of the leaf spring and added some plastic profiled to accept the rear axle. (lowering blocks ;) )

    The wheels will probably be touching the rear arches.. its a model and looks good.

    Next I plan to either make a 54 chevy grille work or most likely make a tube grille and also finish the engine bay. After that I plan to add tuck'n'roll to the interior using half round rod. Nothing like a challenge. I also plan to remove the bumper guards and maybe use a rear bumper from a fairlane 500.

    Then I'll learn to use an airbrush so I can use alclad and other fancy paints.

    My inspiration for this build is my dads precious car which he had for 16 years, my love of Kustoms and also a book I have called kustomland as well as my continuous need to get better at everything i do haha.

    Im just getting back onto the cars now my skills and understanding have gotten better. Got some nearly finished builds that need doing and I'm also starting some new builds, one idea will take a kit bash of 4 kits (!) and one thing I plan to do is learn how to use my airbrush so i can use alclad. And HOK paints as they offer small tubs for airbrush users.

    Builds of rods, kustoms, drag cars all go down well here.And they're a good lot. Theres also a kits n bits thread where you can swap or ask if anyone has parts in they're parts box. I'm after wide whites and kustom hubcaps for my 57 ford Tudor mild custom build. (The engine and wheels are being stolen for my idea) I asked an hour or two ago and have had 2 replies :)
