  1. Very nice. I was also curious about this kit. Is it a curbside?
  2. Most of the arches I saw growing up in this area growing up were wheeled like this one. VERY cool stuff, I wanna build one of these...
  3. Well, if it makes you feel any better I would rather have a U series Autocar or a mid-fifties KW, But I am not holding my breath...
  4. I am generally not interested in modern trucks, but I might pony up for one of these, if nothing else just to encourage Moebius to branch out.Wonder if they have any plans to tackle any automotive subjects?
  5. just noticed this on another thread, sourkraut has the 4-71 already. http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=5
  6. Neat truck. You know you can strip chrome with Easy-Off, among other things, right? Usually, one of the first things I do when I start a truck build, is cut the door handles and headlight buckets, and MAYBE the roof marker lights off the chrome tree, and hose everything else down with easy-off.
  7. I have the trans in the parts box, am going to pull a mold.
  8. Man, they must have an old nun on the spellchecker thingy! The word was cr#p, in case anyone was wondering...LOL!
  9. Very good info, Muleskinner. I have been sitting on one of these kits for years, and had an idea with what I wanted to do with it, but didnt feel like I had enough info to do it properly, and I am a rivet counter, HATE it when I get partway through something and realize what I have done so far is all bogus ######. REALLY good stuff. I am also gonna try to scratchbuild a better track cleat, then cast copies of it. Hope you dont mind if I continue to pick your brain over the next few months on cats. Thanks for the great info.
  10. Could be wrong here, but isnt the AMT aerodyne COE the only source for a silver '92 in bi-scale? It also has the big Allison automatic in it, which is a MUST if you want to build most garbage trucks.
  11. Yes, when I did my machinist training as a youth, one of our class projects was machining some parts for a BIG old IH bulldozer, it had a pony motor on it. It was really neat when we fired that thing up for the first time after 20 some-odd years. Heres a pick of a pony motor, and another of something like what I would like to build. How does the cable system for the blade work? Is it attached to the winch at the back??
  12. Thanks, Another good alternative. Guess I have no excuse for not starting my Sterling now...LOL!
  13. Really cool. I should scratchbuild a wheeled skidder arch, wouldnt be very difficult, and I remember seeing LOTS of those when I was a kid.
  14. Thanks guys. Really great stuff at that one website...
  15. Found these pics on truckmodeler.com. Does anyone know how this guy did the chains on the chain drive? Is the builder lurking here? I have been wanting to do a tandem axle chain drive Sterling for a long time, the chains have had me stymied...
  16. sooner have my armpit hair set on fire. Ugh!
  17. KILLER stuff. Love it. I am in the NW myself, have seen these.
  18. I have one of these engines. One thing that you may not be aware of, the Revell Mickey Thompson Attempt 1 kit has a 4:71 GMC supercharger, if a guy wanted to do another variant, cutting two cylinders out of this engine and using the 4:71 from the Attempt One would enable you to do another vintage engine variant to build a series 630 from this cab , or for the Cannonball.
  19. I have been working on a 353 for years. It kind of stalled because my metal-working skills were not up to snuff to make a decent hood. Recently I have done some other projects that have helped me learn more skills in this area, so I think I am ready to dig it out and take another run at it. The AMT Kenworth Alaskan hauler fenders are quite close if you trim them, turn them around backwards, and remove the tread-plate texture.
