Tole Paints
chevymaniac replied to airhorn's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Craft paint or tole paint is a great cheap alternative on plastic. I use it all the time but I find that if I mix 20% acrylic clear varnish (found in the funiture finishing department of your local hardware store) and 10% Tamiya thinner I get better results and the paint in a bit harder for wet sanding. The great thing about that paint is that it dries in a hurry! Now I wish I could use the Pearl they have in my airbrush but it clog it up pretty good even with a #3 tip. Later Dan -

What do you need? -
All the details of the "TMC Mack Truck Build Off " are almost finalized and all we need now are participants. The prize pool is HUGE with over $700.00 in prizes and I've been getting e-mails from a few participants and competition will be fierce and we should see some very nice builds. This Competition will go on for over 1 year and the Winner will be announced Jan 2009. I'm also negotiating with a big sponsor that want's to remain a surprise until further in the build off (It's a Major Trucking Company here in Ontario") And That BIG Special Prize will be awarded At the 2009 Fergus Truck Show. More details on this later during the build but if I get good response from Truck Modelers, I will also organised a mini Truck Model show at the Fergus event. Good Luck to all the participants, This is a worldwide competion and we should see all kinds of different variation of Mack Trucks. For details go to www.truckmodeler. com Thanks to all the Sponsors, they help keep our hobby alive!! AMT's Autocar A64B reissue ?
chevymaniac replied to J J's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Alive but I don't know about well...in Canada anyway. They might be doing well in the US but here in Canada, I think they are strugling. Most AutoCar garbage trucks we see here don't have any badging on them, the only way you know it's an AutoCar is a small 2" sticker on the dump body. And one of the drivers said the dealerships are having a hard time getting parts to keep them running. Dan -
custom decals
chevymaniac replied to joelbob's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
JoelBob, the only way you can get gold leaf decals is using an Alps printer. The method Scott described is how I make my decals except I use Adobe Illustrator and draw from scratch but without an Alps printer you can't print White, Gold and Chrome and yellow is really hard also. Your best bet would be JBot. Later Dan -

Thanks all for you comments. I was really surprised with the help I got from many patrons of the site trying to clean up bugs from the site and most problems were fixed within 24 hours. Like a lot of people I also visited truckmodeler.com at least once a week and I've been building trucks for 18 years now and this whole thing I like to call "internet modeling" is the reason I still build models. I'm a rookie at building websites and learning everyday. I will keep the site running as long as I can and help is always welcome. When I started DMTW I was trying to do something that was different and the combination of both website is giving truck modelers the full package, Pictures, Contest and resources. Thanks Dan
