I know about that Allison engine and i was thinking about buying one. Pretty cool. But it is quite expensive to get it to Holland. The parts pack I found on Ebay. They cost $25 plus $30 for shipping... Dennis

I have been doing some work on the chassis and body. The body is shorter and the rear doors removed. Also added the Mercedes roof. The chassis is shortened and will be Z-ed. Still have to figure out many thing as it is my first attempt doing something like this. If it goes wrong totally, I still have a second kit of this same car, so I have some spare parts Dennis

Dear friends, After I have finished the Volksrod I wanted to built something different. For I while this 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II was waithing to be built. So I started and want to use it to try some more things. I have some ideas but don't have anything concrete so we will see where it ends. I shortenend the body, because in real it is a huge car and also to fit an old Mercedes roof on it. The chassis must be shortened too somewhere in the middle. I also cut off the front and rear ends off the chassis. I cut off the front spring leafs. They will get one single leaf. The back end of the body is closed with styrene, I don't use the Original boot... Dennis

Finaly my Volksrod is ready. It didn't turn out as I wanted but... I am happy with it. I know it is not perfect, and if it was a real car I wouldn't drive it. But it was a great build to test my skills. I found out that I like to change the car more than I like to build it out of the box. The kit is too simple and not very detailed and the plastic is too hard. Here you see the final photos. Now see what my next project will be... Dennis Ps. Many thanks to Modlbldr to donate me the front wheels...

Well, the Volksrod is almost finished. All I have to do is the black wire rims with whitewalls and the home made drumbrakes. Now starting to think of what my next project will be. A new Volksrod, a custom build classic Mini, a hot rod or a rod tow truck. I have about 35-40 kits on the shelf to choose from. I am sure it must be something that I can change a lot. I found out that I enjoy that more than building ringht out of the box. This is how the Volksrod is now. Hope to get it finished today, but I am afraid it will take some more days...

Last days I didn't have much time. So I did some small work. The headlights... not finished yet, but it gives an idea... Dennis

Today I received an envelope from the USA. It was the present from our member Modlbldr who sent me some wire wheels for the front. They need some work because the tyres are just a little too narrow and I need to find a way to mount them to the car. But this picture gives a good idea how it will look. Also imagine white walls on the front tyres.... Thanks Modlbldr.... Dennis

Got some questions about how I did the chassis. Well, here you see the before and after pics. I used some small wooden stick only because I did not have any styrene strips at that moment.

Well it's been a busy week. Earlier this week US president Obama visited my work in Amsterdam. Of course that was a lot of work to get the security right. I was lucky to see him, see Marine one and see the beast(s). I also liked working together with the US Secret Service Now finally some time off and back to the Volksrod. I made some hairpins and drumbrakes. The drumbrakes will get a backplate later. Also did some work on the headlights which will be used. Dennis

If everything goes as planned I get a pair smaller wire rims for the front from crazyrichard. In that case I go for the wired ones... Dennis

@ Modlbldr: Maybe thes photos can help you? The sizes are in cm. I thinks the size of the steelies is ok, or just a little bigger then the steelies are... Dennis
-
Ill measure them later and let you know. Dennis

This evening i will post photos of the diffrrent options I have in ine message. My first idea was also that the front wheels are just a little too big. But maybe that is better than two different styles of rims... Dennis
-
I wish I had one pair smaller ones in the same style... Or I should use the original steelies in front. Also painted black. Dennis

Well a new idea... On an old Mercedes kit (someone gave it to me for parts) I found some nice rims with white walls. I am trying to clean them now and remove chrome and glue. I will use these, and make them simply gloss black. What do you think...? I think this is better... Dennis
-
Hmm maybe you are right... Dennis

Just before giving the Rod a last wetcoat clear I did a dryfit to get an idea of how it looks. I am not unhappy. These rims are the ones to be fitted. After removing the chome I think I spray them cream/white and the spokes gulf blue. Dennis

Found some time this evening to put the 2K Zeropaints clearcoat on the Volksrod. Later I will polish the car for the ultimate shine... Now lets concentrate on interieor, wheels and chassis... Still a long way to go Dennis

The home made bulletshape rearlights are finished. I add some layers clear red on them and finished them with a very small line BMF. After that I glued them on the car. Pictures are taken during drying. The car is standing straight up to avoid the lights slide down. But I think it gives a very good idea how it will look. Hope to find time this evening to add a clearcoat on the body. Maybe fun to know, they are about 6mm long and 2mm diameter. Dennis

Looks good. Maybe next time try to experiment with some washes on the engine to give it more depth... Dennis

I am working on some bullet shape rear lights. I shaped them myself from some clear sprue. I will paint them with clear red paint.
