Does anybody know: Dave Natale from AITM is avalible by e-mail? Asked him couple questions about his stuff two days before. Still nothing back.
I'd sent one last week to no avail.... resent it on Monday, and had a response soon after.

I haven't had a set printed for myself yet. Funds have been a bit limited.

Matt, I did look into a few options and I couldn't get a price that was decent. Everything seemed the same or more and I couldn't justify having to glue the flanges on the rails. I could always look again though.
I had some stuff cut out of laserboard... and it was pretty reasonable. Styrene might be more.. it was more of a passing thought. Some parts for detailing from the company that did my custom work:
-
Since the main rails are 3D printed I will have to buy those for every trailer I sell, so that accounts for a majority of the price. All of the other parts I will make.
Have you looked into having parts laser cut? I know there's places that can do Styrene.
To me if there's a cost savings, gluing the flange onto the beam face might be worth it.
Just a thought.

They were modeled almost exactly after 1:1 versions. those are a 3/8" grab hook. I guess the issue also lies in finding chain that scales out perfectly, This is a issue in almost any scale.
-
I finally got some whipped up in 3D.
-
I've lost 2 assemblies in 10 minutes, these aren't being used on the logging truck that's for sure. I'll have to figure something else out.
I may need to look into doing them in a closed position.... doesn't bode well for "closing them" I wonder if resin is any stronger.....
-
Well they showed up today. I have to admit they are nice looking, however they are super friggin TINY. I'll probably have to do some modifications just to get the chain and cable on them. If that doesn't work I'll save them for my armor models.
I have no doubt painted and assembled they'll look great.
I have a set cast in white metal in 1/35... those are tiny... these actually measure bigger!!
-
That's one big rig !!!!!!!!!!! How many load's do you ship in a week?
That size... usually up to a couple dozen a year. Most of what we build is usually smaller (more usual "heavy haul" type trailers, and only 1/2 escort(s) not the 4+ we have with these monsters.
-
the whole idea is unknown to me ( i still marvel at the magic of radio), but Dremel is offering a 3D printer about the size of, yup, a breadbox. 999.99$
Biggest downfall is the filament... it's PLA which is biodegradable. NOT good for scale models.
-
Shapeways handles all of the production/shipping. I create the CAD models, & upload them to them, they handle everything else. It's a relatively new type of arrangement, but saves me from investing in a high end 3d printer. (Which I'm pretty sure I can't get past the wife anyway!!!!)
-
The casters are in another section, but available in 1/24 scale.
-
All,
I've updated the ratcheting style as well as the indirect to remove the link between the hook & the Eye. The ratcheting have the eyes separate as well. There's also now a set of 20 Gladhands!!!!
I'm hoping I've worked the kinks out of the load binders.
-
-
Well I got refunded, shapeways refused to print it.
My Apologies. They wouldn't pass the manual review. I'm working on several other versions.
I have one available that has the links between the hook and connecting arms removed.
Working on another that has a figure 8 connector instead of the link.
-
I was going to suggest that after seeing the email Installing closed would prevent putting tension but it would be manageable I guess.
I'll do a set with more od a center in the link... like a figure 8....
-
Those look nice Matt, I may have to pick up a set. The problem I have run into with frosted ultra detail parts from Shapways is that they are pretty weak and very brittle. It can make great parts as long as you are careful with them.
It's a double edged sword. you wind up with the brittle, if you want the detail.
I wonder if I can make it closed & try simplifying it for use with the other plastics.
Here's a set with the links missing.
-
OK,
Even though they meet Shapeways minimum thickness standards, I've run into it before where the manual review fails..... this is one case where they feel it won't print successfully.
I can:
Remove them and make the hook separate.
add a solid in the center of the link, so it looks like a figure 8 connector.
Change the hook style to one with a removable pin thru it.
To those that ordered: if you contact them after I fix it to reorder you can sometimes get them to waive the shipping if you ordered other items (as when you reorder it's considered a new order)
Matt
