  1. My best friend built a replica '69 Hurst Olds convertible back in the day as his first car. During his stint in the Air Force he had her along with the family car and when his enlistment was up, the decision was made to return to West Virginia from Holloman AFB in Alamogordo, NM. The problem was they could only tow back one car behind the U Haul so the decision was made to sell the Olds before heading home. Like many of us he now regrets that decision and dreams of one day having another. Since my numbers for the recent Billion dollar PowerBall didn't hit, I decided to build him a desktop model instead. Since there is no 1/18 scale diecast of the '69 H/O convertible (or the 442 or Cutlass convertibles for that matter) I picked up the '69 H/O hardtop model and plan on converting it to a drop top. Doing so will require a total respray which means the H/O & Olds fender emblem decals will be lost. Is there a company that makes the 1/18 scale Hurst Olds decal sets? THANKS
  2. Robert, Any more progress on your build? I now have my Revell glue bomb deconstructed as well as an unbuilt 7474 kit that the doors have already been cut out as well as the Minicraft red hot rod kit for the more traditional suspension bits. Really eager to see how you create the door jambs and window frames, working cowl vent as well as the stock dash and interior panels! THANKS
  3. Robert/Stray, Thanks for giving me the inspiration to go after this kit and build the hot rod of my dreams! I discovered this site while looking for reviews of the newly released Revell Starsky & Hutch model to add to my collection. I had one of the factory editions back in ’76 and had her for years before selling it in a moment of stupidity. When the S&H movie came out in 2004 I decided it was time to fulfill the promise I made to myself the day my Torino rolled away to have another and I am currently building a clone of the season 2-4 Hero Torinos (I know the individuals who own the two Hero cars from the series). While looking thru all the various builds on the site, I came across your thread on the 1:16 scale Revell ’34 three window project….. Was on a Wednesday night back in 74(?) that a black flamed hot rod streaked across the screen of my our TV promoting an ABC Movie of the Week that would be coming on next that the hook was set. I stayed transfixed on the couch eagerly awaiting the movie to begin and when the Kid rolled across the bridge into town, a desire to get my own hot rod was burned into my teenage brain. Thru the years I once had a chance to buy a glass ’34, but it was unchopped and yellow, so I passed on the car but the dream has always stayed with me. I now own the movie on DVD (and Blu-ray) as well as having a 1/24 scale DM replica under glass on my shelf, but the only one in my garage is the Monogram ’34 I built back in the day using a Hot Rod magazine article as reference for the flames and other details. While my search continues for an unbuilt Revell 7474 kit, I did pick up an amateur built glue bomb on eBay for a few bucks that I’m currently slowly deconstructing back down to the basic parts so I can build a 1/16 scale replica of The California Kid as seen on the ABC movie of the week. I going to build it to match what Pete Chapouris did back in ’73 (old school suspension) and adding the wheels and side pipes as seen on TV. I also plan on cutting the doors to open as well as adding the cowl vent, hinged windshield and maybe a rumble seat instead of the trunk!?? Are either of you aware of a source for 1/16 scale ’34 parts? My kit bomb was missing the grill and I will also need some wheels, tire, Ford 302 engine and automatic, as well as old school style suspension pieces. I appreciate any parts leads and look forward to the next installments of your inspiring builds!! Sorry for being so long winded………..
  4. I have several of the Ertle and AutoArt 1/18 diecasts that are attached to the black base and was wondering if there is a source for clear display cases that will fit those bases??
  5. One thing I'd like to do is add some serious blue LED's to the Falcon's tail to simulate her "exhaust" and some marker lights here and there...
  6. Yeah, I still have several SW kits yet to build... Slave 1, speeder bike, Tydirium Shuttle...... perhaps more that don't immediately spring to mind. I have unbuilt car kits out the wazoo too, so I have plenty of stuff to build! Maybe when I retire?? LOL
  7. Guys, When I was going thru the garage looking for my modeling tools, I came across a couple vintage Star Wars models I built back in the day when they were fairly new releases. Hope they meet with every ones approval!
  8. Hey everyone, First, thanks for allowing me to join in on all the fun! I was an avid car modeler in my youth and that has kinda waned in my adult life as I became more interested in building the 1:1 cars rather than their miniature cousins. My current 1:1 project is building a replica of my first new car.... a Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino. My old ride hadn't moved a foot when I realized I had a brain fart by letting go of the car I had had for over 15 years, but I promised myself I would get her back one day. When the S&H movie came out in 2004, I reminded myself of that promise and the search for my ole steed began. After months of searching, phone calls, wanted posters, cold tips and countless fruitless road trips, it became clear she was not to be found, so I began my search for her replacement. Another few months of searching and the ideal candidate was located on eBay, shipped to Ohio from Washington state and the cloning process began. With the release of the movie (which was a lame excuse to use the characters and storyline of the series IMHO), there came a renewed interest in the franchise and all kinds of stuff began appearing on the market... DVD's of the series and movie, die casts, slot cars, muscle machines, miniature rc cars and now.... the 1/25 scale S&H Gran Torino model. When I got wind of this forthcoming release, I began to dig out all my old hobby supplies in anticipation of building this kit to be a miniature of my 1:1 project, which is a clone of the seasons 2-4 TV Hero Gran Torinos. I am luck enough to not only know the owners of these two pieces of TV history, but even got to drive one.... STRIKE THAT OFF THE BUCKET LIST! I look forward to once again getting my feet wet building/modifying the Revell Starsky Torino kit as well as other kits I've seen that have whetted my appetite to build more of these miniature beauties! Again, thanks for having me and I look forward to seeing what everyone else is building!
  9. I'll be ordering myself a few of these. What's sad is that they did not contact one of the owners of the TV Hero cars to get the kit screen accurate, but that's what we're for right?? LOL A few of the areas I would like to change would be to add the body side moldings, chrome mirrors, bucket seat interior, 460 V8 and deep and shallow slot mags. Are there any kits around that would have a 460 Ford carbureted engine and automatic? The tires look to be pretty accurate big-n-littles but where could I score the wheels? Thanks guys!
