  1. little update kiddies! not done yet, ive got to tuck and glue some corners, retouch the vinyl top, taillights, i may add a search light and at least a drivers mirror. customizations include making it into a hearse, custom tail pipes, 4" scale suspension drop. its been a struggle so far, but i can see the way its going to look and im glad i did what i did. the purple light is brighter for whatever reason in the pictures, its more of the dark funeral car purple in person.
  2. im thinking of doing my first lowering with this one too. seems how its just pin axles i should just be able to drill new holes.
  3. ok guys and gals, got a little bit more done. got the body painted a little more, got the windows in, and some curtains added. i wasnt sure how i felt about the light bar, but i figure why not? its painted to have purple lighting, like an actual funeral car would have. im not happy with it, and i will do another one when my skills improve. its too sloppy for my OCD needs. now the rear area has equipment and jump seats molded into the floor and i dont have enough .030 plastic to make a suitable bed, so i did something a little different. i had a tonneau cover from a 30s ford pickup kit, so i used that and some other parts to make a partial hatch cover. im going to find some 1/24 scale flowers and hopefully a 1/24 flower wreath to put on and behind the cover. now, the paint isnt done in the interior, it needs a couple colors and coats, but it gives the idea. the shiney spots on the roof and cover are just wet, not missed. its not too bad, so far its close-ish-kinda.
  4. i hadnt thought of the fins, it may have to stay a 59.
  5. thanks fellas, the progress will be documented in the "workbench" area so im not filling this one with junk
  6. greetings, boils and ghouls. its time for my next adventure. this one features my FIRST custom build. ive always loved the creepy and the unwelcome, so here we go again! im building a 1960 hearse! i started it all off with the AMT Ghostbusters ECTO1 model. and decided to make a hearse! some have told me it was a hearse, and though they did pull double duty and use it to carry caskets, it isnt a hearse as I see them. i pulled the model body out and got to work. now, the glass on this kit is one huge wrap around piece, the front windows are up. so i scribed the rear quarter glasses and broke them free. i then added a non shrink BONDO filler to the windows to fill it in smooth. i also sanded down and filled in gaps on the roof and one side panel. i left the fron light bar mount because i am going to paint it to have the traditional purple hearse lighting. heres where im at so far. as you can see i have some more filling and sanding to do, but you get the idea so far. heres what im hoping to replicate. what do you guys think so far? remember, its my first custom.
  7. ok boys and ghouls, heres where we ended up so far. i cut the rear glass free from the rest of the glass (its one BIG piece). i then glued them into place and applied the filler. ive got to put more filler in the low spots you see, and sand everything down again, but its not terrible for my first ever custom work.
  8. i guess that will be another thing to practice
  9. thats a lot more involved than im used to. ive got some truck parts from my last build that ill practice on first. after i fill the windows it will get a vinyl top. is the masking tape technique still a thing? put it down, brush the edges with glue and then flat black. heres what im going for...
  10. hello all, my next build i am going to pick up the ecto 1 kit from hobby lobby and convert it from a 1960 ambulance into a 1960 hearse. to do this i need to fill in the rear quarter windows so they are smooth with the body. ive done a lot of model work, but ive never filled windows before. does anyone have tips or pointers? links to a walk through would be killer too. thanks all!
  11. yup, throwing away my modeling gear... just beautiful!
  12. moved to under-glass.
  13. thanks all! shes very proud of it and plans on doing another one. lucky for me she likes similar cars as myself so i can get into it with her. she picked the color, its the same color as my passat. she learned how to use the color guide and chose to follow all the colors.
  14. built by my daughter and myself. her first paint model. hope you guys like it!
  15. That corsair is a lot of fun. I got that about 20 years ago and it's never been run. I still have the can of fuel it came with and the line is still wrapped and banded.
  16. Ill have tokeep that in mind next time. Every model on my shelf is a rustolium body and frame, testors parts.
  17. Finally mated the chassis to the body. Like mahogany rush said, the body WILL NOT go on to the chassis without doing an interesting combination of pull the engine, spread the body, press them together. Pain in the butt. Still got to finish adding the trim and do all the other stuff. The kid is gone for the weekend, so no progress til at least Monday.
  18. First time on one of these. She paints all the time, pinewood derby cars, figurines, all sorts of stuff
  19. No, we didn't end up stripping it. Olivia was proud of her spray job so we kept it. I'm proud of her. Very proud. Let it be known that of course, no, she's not building this alone. But the paint is 90% her. She paints it on the tree, I cut it off and touch up the spots that the sprue was covering, if its a big peice she glues it, little ones I glue. She picks all the colors. She wants to get her skills up and branch off to build space craft models.
  20. She kind of wants a custom look. The dash is painted the same as the body. The interior is mostly white and a green stripe on the centers of the seats. Pictures when we get home. One great aspect is that my daughter is very well concentrated when she is painting.
  21. To be fair, she paints then I touch up and glue. She has done a good potion of the work though.
  22. Update
  23. alright fellers, time for another update. we only get to work on this if its been a good day at school AND homework is done. remember folks, dad first, buddy second if there is time, lol. been putting more detail into the engine. she wanted spark plug wires like my other kits, so i let her pick out the color from the wires i had in my stash. picked a green to kind of go with the body. i glued them to where the plugs are, then i let her run the wires to the distributor. this kid may turn out to be a modeler or mechanic yet! got the exhaust and under body painted. decided the body wasnt too bad so we added a couple more coats of paint to hide the high spots.i have pictures of all this but of coarse photobucket is under maintenance.
  24. i think ill have to strip bath the body. whats a body safe solution for this?
