  1. WOW, Thank you guys for all of the input. I bookmarked those links on where to buy along with the Model Car World one which is impressive as well. Also placed my first small order from Scalefinishes to get started. Learning the correct thinning formula and air pressure is going to be a learning curve for sure, but like Mark stated, what's the rush. I do still have 2 cans of Tamiya primer and a few Testor's enamel rattle cans (I find the nozzles to be terrible and they often spray globs) maybe I should trash them? Thanks OldCoyote, I was actually going to ask if all those little Testor's jars that i have the crazy colors of are still usable with the airbrush, that is good to know that I can still utilize them. Those builds are awesome! I actually just bought a K-Sentials Labonte diecast a few months ago, I can't even begin to imagine how much planning on what paint to put on first when into that one. If I can do them half as good as those, I will be pleased. Thanks Shadetree, LEA will be going on a post it beside my model station for sure! That is my biggest fear, I remember last year reading some people were using some Krylon, Rustoleum.... and some did not react well with others or primer and caused headaches. LEA should keep me in the good. Thank You All so much Joe
  2. Thank you again for your replies, I will try and avoid mixing acrylics and enamels, I just wasn't sure if you had to pick one or the other to use in the gun. I can't remember what it was but I remember reading on here last year that somebody put one kind on top of another kind and it lifted, I just want to try and avoid that. I like your idea about sealed cleaning containers, gonna have to get a couple small plastic containers when I go to the dollar store. Is there a reputable website that you recommend for purchasing your paints and materials? Thank you again Joe
  3. Thanks very much for the reply Jhedir6, I am like you and would like to stick to a single brand or two. I like how you mentioned that one has a large range of colors, I have never mixed paint yet and that could make it easier. I figured it would be a good setup to learn with. I have bookmarked the Iwata that you mentioned. Cleaning it will surely be an experience, the kit has a ten step cleaning process. The confusing thing to me is what is compatible, can you put down a base acrylic white and then mask off and put enamel red over it? That is why I would like to keep to the same kind of paint to take that out of the equation. I am excited to learn, I just have to remember not to get to PO'd when i botch something. Thank you very much and Happy New Year
  4. Hello everybody and Happy New Year (in a few hours). The cold weather has me bottled up in the house more than usual and has me wanting to do a few NASCAR kits that I have laying around. The lady was kind enough to get me an airbrush for the holiday, which is cool, but I know nothing at all about them other than reading the directions. It came with 3 guns and a compressor. I just wanted to see what products you guys use to get these amazing builds that I see in the forums. It is confusing because I see acrylic and enamel airbrush paints for sale and am not sure if you can put one on top of another and stuff like that. same for primers, are they all the same? I have a Bill Elliott kit to try it out on. Just want to get the paints ordered. I can learn how to use/clean it while waiting for the order. I'm sure it will be a learning experience but would be worth the effort after seeing all the great ones on here. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I did a search with the kit name and nothing showed up. Thank you all for looking and have a safe 2018.
  5. I will have to bookmark this Stryker, I never even would have thought about that showing through. Glad all you guys are on here. I appreciate it. I will be doing a 1995 Steve Kinser Quaker State Thunderbird next. Then I'll try and tackle the Gordo
  6. All good ideas, The coat hanger never crossed my mind and hey are plentiful. Thanks Joe
  7. Just checked out his site, several choices and will definitely order some when the SS kits come out
  8. Never thought of that MrBuick, I do have a box of those somewhere. That would be a ton of sanding like you said.
  9. Thanks Em-Jay, I was thinking of that as well. Even a straightening out a paper clip possibly. Glad I had that botched build laying around. Thanks Joe
  10. Love the black and white one. I have a big collection of racing cards and remember seeing this one. How did you get the goodyear decals to stick on the tires so well? Seems like the ones I get have an upraised text of some sort on them, I tried sanding them off but actually made it look worse. Thanks Joe
  11. Thanks MG Brown! Gonna have to take a look. I assume Pattos is his ebay seller name? Thanks Again Joe
  12. Thanks Renegade, I started and abandoned an old chevy wagon years ago. May be able to jack an axle from that if it had them. Thanks Joe
  13. Thanks Renegade, It's an AMT Ertl. Do u know if they are universal?
  14. Hi Guys, Was just doing some work on my Labonte car and realized that instructions call for a metal axle. There is none in the box, not sure if it wasn't packaged or if I lost it. Just wanted to see if you guys have any tips or tricks if this has ever happened to any of you. Thanks Joe
  15. Those are awesome Old Coyote! The top one looks like the one I'm working on. The paint came out ok, though the instructions called for Medium Dark Red which appears to be a few shades darker than I remembered Terry's car. Hopefully I will have time to finish the chassis this weekend. Barring any decal issues I believe I will pleased for my second build in a decade. Speaking of decal work, I bet that Iron Man car was a nightmare to decal. I wish I would have done the Terry Kellog's Lumina instead, I like the longer look of those boats. Thanks Joe
  16. Thanks bbowser, I appreciate the tips. Just finished an Earnhardt Jr. AC Delco which is one color and came out decent for the first model in over ten years. I'm about half way done with a 98 Terry Labonte (Figured I'd try one with 2 colors) and have already sanded it down twice as the testors yellow little spray can seems to spray great then start to spit little globs. Picked up a can of Krylon fusion today that will hopefully spray even. I think I will take your advice and do a 2001 Harvick White Goodwrench next for practice. Slowly plugging along but enjoying and learning. Thanks Joe
  17. Thank you all for the replies. i really appreciate them. Hope with some practice I can build cars the quality of the ones that you guys have shared. I can't even imagine how long it took or where to even get those engine cables and fittings, i almost bought the Cope Purolator kit but the checkerboard scared me away. I am possibly the world's worst model painter. Also, I see a few mentions about putting clear coat on. Do you do that before or after you decal the model. Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the patience. Joe
  18. Thanks Old Coyote, On my way to check that out right now. I just figured it was some out of production paint from back in 1993. Edit. That site is awesome. Will save me many headaches trying to figure out what to use. Thanks again Joe
  19. Hello guys, hope all is well. Picked a Gordon lumina today to practice on. Noticed that the directions call for dayglow red and a blue. Can't seem to find either in spray. Just wanted to see what you guys who have built one have used. I searched the previous posts but many of the images were gone for some reason. Thanks Joe
  20. Thanks Martinfan5, I should have clarified. I was looking for decals of other drivers that will fit with the new kits. Thanks and sorry
  21. Hi Guys, Just checked ebay for a bit and couldn't find any newer than 2010. Do I need to search for a specific seller or refine my search criteria? Thanks
  22. Sweet, gonna have to grab a bunch of these. Do you guys think that there will be decal sets out there by then? Thanks Joe
  23. Thanks Old Coyote, I appreciate the reply and pics. These are the things that are kind of confusing as what can be used with or over what. I guess when I was a kid i just slobbed whatever I could find on them. Those pics are great! I love the Yellow Mike Skinner car, Can't even imagine how hard that must have been to paint. I painted my first model in a long time the other night (Testors dark blue gloss spray can) and had to completely sand it down because it looked like crinkle paint. Thanks again for taking the time to respond and sharing those awesome pics. Hopefully I will be able to build one of that quality at some point. Joe
  24. Nice, Sounds like my carelessness may work out for me this time. Thanks
  25. Thanks Miatatom, That's what I plan on doing. Glad it will work. Thanks for the reply
