  1. Monty, are you thinning your enamel or anything if so how or are you just brushing right out paint jar ?
  2. I just have so many questions, hard to find what I'm looking for. Sorry just trying to learn.
  3. Wondering what type of paints you all use on your models? (Acrylic, enamel, lacquer, ext.) If you where to use just one type of paint on a model what would it be? Best paint for bodies? Best paint for other parts and detailing? Mostly brush on or spray paint? How you do you paint your small parts?
  4. Yeah those were the Foose wheels that came with the kit. In that picture the car is sitting up in the front more than back...I have it leveled out now...I think the car is gonna turn out nice after I fix this body!
  5. UPDATE: build has been slow! I have been working a lot, not much time to get at the bench. Got most everything fitted and sanded and ready for paint and then today dropped the body in the gravel while painting it and tore it up...was trying to get body painted before going to the beach tomorrow for family vacation. Oh well I'll get back on it when I come back I guess!
  6. Thanks for all the great responses, tips, and opinions. It seems like experience is one of the main things just like anything else. Another would be learning from others, talking with builders, asking questions, reading on this forum and watching YouTube. I am new to the hobby and I have a few other hobbies I do but model cars is my newest indoor spare time hobby. Basically I need to get some more builds or a hundred under my belt first and see where it takes me. What made me get into this hobby was I had been wanting to build one for fun so I got on YouTube and then discovered how big the model car community on there was. It got me really interested and the more I watched, the more I got hooked. So maybe one day I could take a car to a show and compete but for now I will continue building and trying to improve and challenge my self. As far as answers I got for things to make a car show quality was: Paint, fitment, making things the right scale, mold lines, detail, and making it look as real as possible!
  7. What makes a car show quality? Finishing a car is a great feeling no matter what others think about it. Knowing you built and assembled the whole car. Putting a car on your shelf at home may be what you like and good enough but what are some of the things that make a car great and will be able to hold up at a model show?
  8. Another thing I was wondering about was...how to repair chrome pieces when I take them off the parts tree...seems to tear off the chrome.
  9. Haha it's new
  10. Also doing lots of test fits and sanding/fab to make it all for nicer
  11. Yeah where the suspension isn't glued down to chassi and the body isn't glued down to it either it's raising up a little...also those wheels are tucked in the front...I might go with factory wheels, and will have to raise the back up some lol
  12. okay I got then engine painted and almost all together...I got the wheels, drivetrain, and body out to test fit it all. Engine just sitting in there and same with suspension. Tell me what you think!
  13. so I was wondering how you guys assemble and paint your engines. Is it easier to paint all of it first then assemble or assemble the whole engine and paint it. (Not all one color, but multiple colors) or maybe you guys and tell me the best ways to do the engine. When to paint, when to glue, what kinda glue, when to assemble.
  14. Thanks guys! I will keep y'all posted with up dates
  15. Yeah dodge fever I will
  16. Yeah John no paint yet haha...I was just displaying it.
  17. Thanks for the tips Tbill
  18. Thanks, yeah it's got a picture on back of box of what it is gonna look like. I probably will do my own colors and stuff too.
  19. Finally able to get this car unboxed and on the bench. I'm ready to start building. Beginner status. This car is my second build ever, first of this year. Plans for this car is do a simple, neat box build. Maybe as a little paint detail, maybe order some plug wires and battery wires. Gonna take it slow. I work a lot so I know it will go slow but I'll keep you all posted!
  20. Sweet! Love a Cuda!
  21. Wow thanks Dave...confusing to me now about the photo etch. Thanks for the pointer on only trying one new thing at a time. I think I'm just gonna try I go for more paint detail on my next model that goes on my bench and I'd like to get some plug wires on it too!
  22. Yes I heard that term photo etched parts...I would like to know what exactly that entails and I haven't used any bare metal foil yet I do need to get some and start trying it. Also I'm trying to learn about paints and trying things out. Probably my next 4-5 builds will be box stock just so I can get practice in and they will be pretty basic, maybe I'll try to put some wheels on it or something. I know these guys that enter these build offs have years and years of experience and probably hundreds of builds they have done but hopefully my attention to detail and customizing and scratch building projects will come out good soon in the next few years.
  23. Why use enamel and not lacquer or vise verse or acrylics and not enamels...when is the best time to use the different paints? Or isn't there one?
