  1. Hi all, fresh from my completion of the Subaru, I pulled out next in the line of models to get built. This one is going to be intended as a gift to someone who is a big fan of VW Campers, and I'm going to try shooting it with some slightly interesting paint (first time using an airbrush too). I'm aware for a second go it's very ambitious, but we all need to be challenged, right?

I've opted for Zero paints ZP-4032 which is a green-purple flip. I think I'll keep the rest of the colour scheme in line with the box art/as revell intended mostly.

I tried painting the whitewalls on the tyres as per the instructions, but that seems to be an express ticket to insanity. I might look into decals, but at the moment I'm quite happy how they look unpainted.

    Thanks for looking :)

  2. You chose a difficult subject with sooo many decals and did an awesome job with it! Did you try decal solutions?

Thanks :) I like to do things the hard way! I didn't in the end and most went on no problem, it's just the curved surfaces that struggle to mate up properly. I have a couple more race cars to do with plenty more decals so I'll give the solutions a go next time!

  3. Thanks guys :) I love the colour combo on this car, the contrast works really well I think.

Well, After a bit of fun and games last night, all the stickers are on (apart from the ones which seem to have magically disappeared during the move) and my first proper foray into scale modelling is pretty much complete. I need to get the shell sitting better on the body but I'll worry about that later, it still looks fine for all intents and purposes how I have it. The 2 Pirelli stickers on the front bumper aren't taking to the curves very well so I might relocate them if I can't get them to stay in place, no big deal.

  4. In1984, a buddy of mine and I were stationed in England, RAF Alconbury and RAF Upwood.   He brought his red fiero over with him.  It was like driving a spaceship though the small towns.  That car got a ton of looks.  Even had a freelance driver/writer take it on a pretty hard drive.  He said kind thigs about it but had hoped it would do more.  It really was a fun car to tear around the British country side.

I'm just up the road from Alconbury and Upwood, we do still see some imported "Yank tanks" driving about taking up the whole road ;)

Build looks good, looks like it's going together nicely!

  5. I looked at yours again and the only things I could think of is the camera used, the primer colour (I'm using Mr Finishing surfacer) and perhaps the spray distance as I'm am using these paints thinned further through an airbrush (far away = rougher surface = mild orange peel even with Tamiya's paints; which is why I started to thin them more)

Yours is still amazing for someone early in the hobby. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Yeah, that too, I'm just snapping with a Galaxy S6, so unless lighting is perfect it will always be a bit dark and grainy. I've got myself an airbrush now so I'm hoping I'll get better finishes from now on at least!

I know that feeling with the decal tear - same happened to me on a bucket seat trying to sit it right and get bubbles out. Hopefully you'll get it looking right, I'm sure you will!

  6. Thanks Dann :)

Some more progress made, some more stuff I'm not happy about but it's OK. Only a couple of small bits left to stick before I can finish it off with all the decals. The body shell is only draped over, I still need to get that glued down once I can get it to fit snugly without breaking everything!

  7. Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before - I tried a quick search but couldn't see anything.

I'm hoping to do a future model in pearl/flip paint but can't find much in terms of guidance on what to do, or indeed what not to do. I'm after a green/purple flip and can see Tamiya to a PS-46 which looks perfect, however it's stated as not for use on plastic models, only polycarb stuff.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what to use, or if the PS stuff can be used, but in a certain way?

    Thanks!

  8. Well, I managed to paint the body over the weekend, I think I've done ok for a first timer - I made a few mistakes here and there but it's not too bad. Gave it 3 coats of primer, 3 colour coats and 3 clear. I got one small run down a rear wing that I did my best to put right, but it will mostly be covered with decals anyway, so it doesn't need to be perfect. A little dissapointing, but I think it's down to experience + the shape of the body seems to promote running no matter how thin I went.
