  1. This is why people don't take the time to get involved!!!!!!!!!

It was noted if another violation comes up at this home, it MAY get investigated.  WTH....are they on double secret probation like the movie Animal House???

At least they didn't warn you that if another violation charge came from you, you could be liable for harassment.

  2. Just back from hobby shop. Picked up a pack of scapel blades, small bottle of super thin CA and a pack of Plastruct 1.5mm hex rod (one of the great modeling inventions) to make sure I had the full set of them. Had intended to get a model, but even with a few new (mainly reissues) ones nothing that rang my chimes. When you already have 2 or 3 of something in some cases in 40 year old packaging, hard to pull a couple of 20's out of pocket for another one to go on the shelf.

  3. Well, just as I had thought/expected, I got the "thanks but no thanks" email today from the place I interviewed at a week ago.

I turn 58 this weekend, and I am really starting to think my age is killing any hope of a job. guess I need to get the spending down to where we can live with no job for me until I can get Social Security. My wife is already on disability so no hope of her bringing in more money. Problem with that is we are already just about at a bare bones level.

As a suggestion. The companies that provide drivers for Valley Metro are hiring, even to the point of having seen a couple of billboards for them. With the expansion of routes and the increase in frequencies and time of service they're really needing people.  You do have to be able to get a CDL class B and a clean 44 month MDV record. You have to take the written test on your own out of pocket after they decide to hire you; but they put you through their own training for the driving test with their instructors and you're on the payroll while doing it. I didn't really like it all that much since I can't stand most people in mass; but survived almost 15 years. Transdev was the company I worked for, much better (and pays better) then First Transit the other company that provides drivers.

  4. Dust!! Try living in Arizona, this stuff is like flour and can find every crack. Then since I live in a condo, you get the 'groundkeepers' out with their industrial blowers filling the air with dust.  Since most of my windows don't open as an extra level I've ran duct tape along the seams. And as mentioned got a bunch of the old JoHan display cases. Wish I could afford glass front bookcases for all my books.

I Just try to decide which book to buy: "Ford F-Series: America's Pickup Truck" or "Ford Medium-Duty Trucks"  by Paul Mclaughlin + Ford Pickup Trucks by Steve Statham ?

    Thanks in advance

In my opinion, the latter 2 would be best, especially if you have interest in the medium duty trucks. I looked at the Ford F book and didn't think much of it. Have the Statham book and its pretty good. Plan on getting the McLaughlin book sometime, since all of his I've seen have been very well done. I do have a few Ford books like the entire right bookcase.

  6. Nothing serious but a disappointment nonetheless. After reading mr68gts' post about bringing a couple of models along during his move I got all excited with the fact that there is a Meng D9R. I thought what a beautiful way to use the giftcard my daughter recently gave me. That enthusiasm got quickly deflated when I realized that it is 1:35.

Yeah, I know. There is some of the 35th stuff they're doing now that I'd willing pay some major dollars for in 1:25/24 scale like the Packard Limo that ICA does.

  7. You allude to two very important points.

The first is that human population is increasing at a rate that is unsustainable, and is the real cause of a lot, if not all, of humanity's current problems. Global population has more than doubled in just MY lifetime. And the folks who are breeding the fastest are NOT the ones who are in a position to do anything to solve the problems human numbers are causing.

The second is that there's no global energy initiative, but instead a lot of disparate groups pulling in different directions, and many of them are politicizing issues that need to be addressed by the best technical minds on the planet rather than being used as levers to gain political power.

There's also the problem of rabid mismanagement by the capital sector. One of the companies over here that had developed a brilliant and sustainable growth model for installing local solar generating stations let the wheeler-dealer MBA set get carried away, began playing the fast-and-loose "business" game (rather than focusing on the tech and hardware that need to be fully developed and debugged) trying to gobble up other companies and expand as fast as possible, and in the process burned through $24 BILLION of investment money prior to filing for bankruptcy (leaving NOTHING for the shareholders).

The Idiocracy is here. Welcome to the future.

And besides human and corporate greed, that hits the 2 taboo topics of politics and religion. I've lost track of the figures, last I remember was an estimate of 8 billion probably closer to 9 now. It seems like around 5 billion is the limit for acceptable  life style and personally would say 3 to 4 billion should be the max. Better go crawl back into my cave, sense the pitchforks being sharpened and symbols fired up.

  8. Got that right. Tried it once, lasted for 2 years then another 3 years getting out of it and the resulting fall out. Most miserable time of my life. And turned out she was allergic to cats and hadn't told me so had to get rid of mine. Now its just me, my new cats and my books, models, cameras and artwork in my little paranoid, luddite, reasonably happy world.

  9. My cousins had a Ford 8N converted to propane back in the late 50's and most tractor manufacturers were offering it as an option by 1960. You had one tank to fuel the tractor and plumbed to the house for heating and cooking for you city folk. So lots of experience as Bill said using gaseous fuels with vehicle storage being a bit of a problem right now. But a lot of work is being done with hydrides which should provide a solution. The main problem is existing infrastructure and investment build around liquid petroleum that the corporations don't want to basically supersede and have to replace from their profits. Let the next CEO worry about it after I've got my retirement package. Which is also sort of what Bill said from a slightly different perspective.

The "experts" will also tell you that your network cable will not withstand constantly repeated connection and disconnection, which is complete BS. I've been doing exactly this with my own system now for years, and my network cable plug hasn't failed yet...over thousands of cycles.

Have had no problems doing that, you just don't do it ham-fisted. Also the primary for me is that I've got it on a separate electrical box so I turn it off to save energy. Like I said "cheapskate". But sometime turn off as many of those little parasites drawing power in your place and figure out the difference. It costs enough here in AZ to cool down the gates of hell without spending more then you have to on electricity. So if you save even just 4 or 5 dollars a month that's about a new Tamiya kit.
