Cesar, I wish I had thought of those rims before you, they're just right for this car! And the speakers/amps in the back look great. I'm waiting for you to get the 4-link done, I want to see how you guys pull that off!
-
X2! That is one beautiful paint job, and a gorgeous color to boot, what is it? All around great work, I'd leave it in a case rather than risk scratching it up!

Thanks Larry, I've got an Alternomad in my stash, maybe now I'll have a reason to build it! OK, I'm really stuck on the badges for the Momad, and I've got a few selections here, tell me which ones you think would be the best. This first grouping is the Retro selection, a 1940 Dodge hood badge, with and without the Dodge above it, and the Momad script that a friend of mine (Racer Rick) came up with for me... And the Modern group, the Chrysler Winged hood badge modified for a Dodge, and a new Momad script using a totally new font. Let me know which ones you think would work better, and I'll get 'em printed up!

OK, here's where I need some help. I did this in MS Paint, and I did the best I could, but it could use an expert to clean it up some more so I can make a decal out of it. Here's what I started with, and the final results. I need it removed from the green background, but I'm nowhere near good enough to do it myself.

Mike, I've got an intake off of a 396 or 427, and two sets of rally rims, pick the ones you want. I don't have the air cleaner or carb, but I'm sure someone else does.
-
Mike, let me look through my parts, I know I've got the rims here somewhere, and probably the rest too. I'll get back to you later and let you know.
-
Mike, I'd gladly swap you the HEMI from AMT's 70 Super Bee Pro Street for the engine in this kit, it's probably the best 427 I've ever built. Let me know if you're interested and I'll dig one out! Doc, how could you have problems with this gem? I've built 5 of 'em, and never had a problem, you must be like me with any NASCAR kit, I just can't build 'em!

I've considered it Jim, but the filler is very thick in that area, and would be a real bear to get right and not cause other issues. I found a badge from a 1940 Dodge that I'm considering, I just need to see if I can replace the Dodge script with a modern-looking one. Then there's the whole printing it on decal paper issue, which gives me fits!

Revell National contest
Custom Mike replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey, you stole my idea Alyn, now we've gotta fight! I see this as a great way to get new builders into the hobby, nothing more. I'm entering, who cares if it's poorly organized or judged, it's a starting point, right? If this one is deemed a success, there will be more to follow, with better organization, more broad subject matter, and better judging. Bashing it before it's even happened will insure that Revell will be leery of doing a second one. If you don't want to enter, then don't, but don't drive Revell away with all the negativity. Take it for what it is, hopefully the first of many contests on a national level, that everyone can enter without driving 12 hours. Let's enjoy it, and hope for a better one next year and the years to follow! -
Rob, I stuck with the stock Magnum rims because I really like them, and they are about the only thing that screams Magnum on the outside of the car. As far as the hood, I'm considering the winged Chrysler trim piece from the Sebring, but I'm not sold on it yet, since it's not a Dodge trim piece. I'm looking at a bunch of pics of old Dodges right now, hoping for something that grabs my eye...
-
The fuel filler is the same one that was engraved on the kit, I just added the trim over it. And I decided on the stock rims, just to keep some Magnum stuff around. That, and they fit perfectly!

Teaser shots....

Robert, steal away dude, I'm glad you guys like it enough to try it yourself! Casey, this is for a '32 5-Window, not the Highboy, I just used it to see how it actually looked on the car. The back side will have to have some small grooves cut around the openings so I can sink the backside of the mesh into it, because it's kind of messy as it sits now... -

OK, here's a few pics with the modified hood side on my already built '32 Highboy, I really like this look, what do you guys think? -
And the last part of my update for tonight, I have the body nearly finalized (Just a few very tiny scratches to take care of), so I decided to mock it up with the headlights in place, and I like the way it looks so far. I'm still figuring what to put on the nose of the hood, but that's a small thing right now, I'll figure something out soon for it. Enjoy the pics, and hopefully I'll be able to get it in White primer this weekend!

We have progress, however slight it may seem, it's at least progress! I decided to go with the PE insets for the side trim versus the decals, which meant I had to notch the driver's side piece and trim it up to fit the gas filler door. It was tedious to say the least, but it worked out fine. Here's some shots of it all mocked up, more to follow in a minute!

Rob, it's from Royal Model, I'm guessing it's for Armor, since it's 1/35th scale. It's item number 470, Medium Diamond Mesh. My friend Mike at my LHS suggested it, and I'm glad he did, it worked out great! -
I'm such a tease! I did this last night, and just had to post a few pics. It's gonna be my next WIP, but I don't want to start it yet, gotta get the Momad done. But this part came out so good I had to post it, I can't help myself.

Cesar and Mike, thanks for the compliments, Kane, any time buddy! And now for a long-winded reply to Terry's response.... I decided a long time ago to do as much as I could to modify everything. Doing it up as a curbside is easy, and would be much faster, but I get much more out of a build this way. Also, I'm trying to do these as Trans-Kits, I just need a good resin-caster to bite on one someday. I'd love to have one of my customs cast, and see everyone else's take on something I came up with. So I'm hoping doing all the extra mods pays off someday. As far as the roof ribs, I decided against them a long time ago, I have enough Nomad styling cues already, I wanted more of a blending of the Magnum and Nomad. Besides, I didn't think they'd look right myself. Now as for the nose, it looks much better once the headlight buckets and covers are in place, you'll see soon enough! I've gotta do something to keep you watching, don't I?
-
This should be another killer build from you Kane, that bike is gorgeous! I'll be watching!
-
Me, do a quick tutorial? It only took me what, 7 years do do one on Acrylic Filler! You should know better Kane! But I do have a link to a tute for ya, try this out! Airbrushing Nail Polishes

Thanks guys, I just do what I feel is cool, it's an added bonus that people like it. If I get some light days at work this week, I should be able to tighten up all my little issues, and get the primer/sealer thrown at it, wish me luck!
-
Here's some quick mock-up pics just to see how it all looks together. I've got a few very small items to deal with on the body (Mainly around the new trim and front of the hood), but hopefully I'll have some Primer/Sealer on it in a few days!
-
Well, this baby is now in the home stretch! I found my color (The H.O.K. Oriental Blue I wanted to use was just too dark for this one), it's a nail polish of course, and it should be stunning! The body is done, along with the front and rear fascias, leaving only the tailgate and hood, which should be done very soon. The interior will be a two-tone gray, with possibly some blue highlights somewhere, we'll see.
-
Alright, we've got some more progress. I know, way too much is getting done, I'll slow down here again, I'm sure of it! I mocked up the tail lights just to see how they fit, and found that my new '57 style trim went wayyy below the tail lights. So I broke out an X-Acto blade, and carefully broke the side trim loose on both sides so I could reposition it. After getting it where it needed to be, I trimmed it up a bit, and added a new section to each side so it goes all the way to the tail lights. Here's the pics, enjoy!

Mike, I just went through all 11 pages of this thread, and all I can say is....wow! The amount of frustration on those hinges would have made me give up, you're a better man than me! I'm about to try making my own "piano" hinges for a '32 Ford hood/side panels, so now I'm gonna have to rethink what I had planned. Aluminum tubing is probably not a good idea seeing the problems you had, so it's back to the drawing board. I'm waiting for this one to get finished, it's looking great so far!
