  1. Welcome Chris. I know about pain also. My back tends to hit me every so often which needs an opioid and some bed rest. I've just gotten back into modeling after years of neglect. Hope you feel better soon, Robert
  2. Every time I go into Danbury, CT I pass a canvas garage with either a Rolls Royce or Bentley parked partly in and partly out. The house where it resides must be worth US $200k if that much. The car looks to be nearly half that worth. Robert
  3. I feel for ya'al. There is a HobbyTown USA in New Milford that is a real supermarket of hobby stuff. The owner also builds models and really knows his stuff. I've been a customer for some years and he is a wealth of information. Anybody in Western Connecticut should stop in. Robert
  4. My wish list: Larger scale but 1/24 1/25 ok. 39 Ford coupe 41 Ford 4 door 51 Mercury 4 door 2013 KIA Optima (I had one 1:1). Early Bug Eyed Sprite Porsche 356A (Another car I had, 1:1) and a Porsche Spyder and 356A with a Spyder engine. Matchless Motorcycle, don't know what year but I had one way back in 1950. Corvair coupe and wagon (think that was what they were called). Auburn Speedster or sedan with Roots blower sticking out the front end How about a Horst (a real German car). Robert
  5. I fell inn love with the XK-E the first time I saw one in Spokane WA. At the time I was driving a bug eyed Sprite which I eventually traded in for a Porsche 356A Speedster that included soft top and a fiberglass removable top. That was good as I was headed for Fairchild AFB outside Spokane WA. I'd bought the Sprite in England while I was stationed there in 1958-59. The dealer at home gave me more for it (against the Porsche) than I originally paid. I have an image somewhere but can't find it right now.
  6. Some years ago I acquired (Tamiya I think) two "Full View" (i.e. transparent) models, a Ferrari F50 and a Porsche 911GT1. The Ferrari I left transparent and will upload an image or two later. Here are images of the Porsche. Unfortunately I no longer have it. I'd lent it to a hobby shop that managed to loose it when they made a store change. Below is a close up of the hood with the decals. This was the first time I'd ever worked with decals so was thrilled with the outcome. Someone at the hobby shop told the owner he would not have been able to do such a job. He'd tried but always managed to mess them up.
  7. I too am glad I found this site. Hope to be a regular contributor.
  8. While I have completed a number of 1/24 and 1/25 models I have been fascinated by the larger models. This Jaguar is what is on my workbench now but some years ago I started Porsche 910 Carrera 10 but as I ran into some technical problems which I will talk about in another post. Below is the box art. I don't remember when I got it but as you can see the box is in pretty good shape. I think the model was produced in 1961 or 1962 as the car is a 1961 model. I plan on making some modifications to make it look realer, but sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach so we'll see how it goes. Frankly I don't think the box art favors the real car. Before I cleaned the mold release off the parts I went ahead and started on the engine seen below. The instructions mention that you should follow the sequence in the instructions so after looking through them (morel than once) I decided to follow them. Now I have to wash them as suggested to rid the pieces of mold release. Has anyone had problems with paint sticking due to fingerprints? This is as far as I have gotten so far. When I started I had no idea I'd be recording the build. More to follow as I get into it. Well this image below wasn't supposed to be here but so be it. This is my work bench up in the attic.
  9. Old man here. I've been building model cars off and on for years but never looked into a model forum until today. I prefer large scale but have worked in 1/25 also. Presently I am working on a 1/8 Revell Jaguar XK-E kit number 07390 from 1961. Up until a couple of days ago I'd hardly even opened the box, the parts were still in their plastic bags. Will be including images of it as I work along with work space. Glad I found this site. Robert
