    Like the Bugatti revival, the Mercer kit was based on an actual vehicle. The Mercer Cobra was a concept car built on a Shelby Cobra chassis. It was created as a promotional tool for the Copper Development Association to illustrate the potential uses of copper alloys for automotive trim.

    The design was actually meant to be an update of the 1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow special, of which only five were built. It was a radically streamlined car for its time.
