  1. I was 5 when it got sold, so I only have vague memories of it.  And the above picture is the only picture we have of it. I just hope i can do the car justice.

  2. I have finally dug into building my dad's 67 GTO. He bought it used when it was only 6 months old. Drove it until 1983, when he sold it to buy a station wagon for the family. By that time the lower parts of the rear quarters had been replaced with pop riveted aluminum sheet, gotta love WI road salt. The car was tyrol blue with a white interior and a white vinyl top.

Starting with the MPC/AMT/Ertl 1967 GTO kit, and its a doozy. I have several releases of it, including the one pictured below, and none of them are near what I would like. After looking at it, and looking at it, and looking at it, I finally opened the Revell 1966 GTO and wow, what a difference. The current plan is to use the body and interior tub from the 67 kit and everything else from the 66 kit. I've hunted down wheel covers that will be close enough, and a single 4 barrel intake for the Revell motor.

Here's Mom and Dad with the GTO in the early 70's.

And my progress on the body. The AMT kit has the fender liners molded with the blob of a chassis, the Revell kit has them with the body. A little surgery and I have the liners and radiator upper brace rough fit into the 67 body.

Great looking pickup. This looks like a more practical size than what most seem to buy around here. The color also looks great one this body style.

We don't really ever tow anything, and she will use the bed mostly for gardening supplies and her bicycle. She doesn't need a 3/4 ton, that's for sure.

500 miles on it so far, and getting 31.8 mpg, can't argue with that at all.

  4. The pics don't show it well, but the air cleaner is sitting on the valve cover. I can't lower it any more than it is. I am contemplating the K&N look, but not doing anything quite yet. I'll be away from the bench for a few days, that will give me some time to think on it. Maybe there is a small rectangular air cleaner i could get down tighter to the carb in my spares box.

Kyle....you gotta promise to come back here at 5,000 and 10,000 miles and give us a review. I've been thinkin' about getting one of those things......

Tell me.........it's Friday. What type of self respecting car salesman lets you get away and "making an appointment" three days out to close the deal? Lotta things can happen in those three days!

I'll give updates for sure. First impression on the test drive, its a pretty nice little truck thing. When I mentioned I could see myself hunting/trapping out of it, my wife gave me "the look". I guess that's off limits.

We are travelling to Colorado and Wyoming end of June, so we'll get some miles on it then for sure.

We are getting the XLT trim, with the turbo 4 and AWD.

I am out of town tomorrow and Saturday, so signing then. It's out getting undercoated today.

  6. Thank you, i was doing some sleuthing also and found the distributor issue. I will have to dig through my stash and see if I can find a Pontiac single barrel carb intake. That's assuming the kit engines are actually Pontiac's and not just generic SBC's.

I will be curious to see if the model intakes have the water crossover molded with the intake, the water pump, or a separate piece.

  7. I started in n engine assembly of the 1967 GTO last night. Boy, I knew that kit wasn't the best, but boy oh boy. So, I got out the 66 GTO kit, and it looks like I will be using everything except for the interior and body from the 66 kit.

The 66 engine has a tri-power intake setup, and I need a single 4 barrel setup. Would a SBC manifold work on the Pontiac engine? I have the manifold from the Revell 65 Chevy pickup that I could use if that works.

I checked the Revell Pontiac parts pack engine, and it has the tri-power setup also.

Glad to see you're back on this little wagon. Like the paint, did you fix the roof issue? An idea on your air cleaner issue. The OEM air cleaner on one of these was usually pretty thin with the hood clearance being a real issue. You know the cold air intake and K & N style cone air filters and air boxes used on many performance cars, why not make something like that here since you already have the wheel and tires.

I did repaint the roof, and its better now.

Still thinking about the air cleaner issue. Not sure what to do about it quite yet. Hearing that the OEM air cleaners were tight makes me feel not so bad about what I did.
