  1. Hello guys, as the title says, I have a slight problem with Gunze GX-100 - in short, I painted a car model using Tamiya Acrylic paint with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner (I've read somewhere that it works actually better than X-20, so I gave it a try - worked well) and 5 days later i sprayed it with Gunze GX-100 clear coat and mixed it with Mr Color Leveling Thinner. Because of bad experiences in previous builds, i left the body to cure for an entire week. After a quick assessment (I touched the car slightly to test the surface), I decided to mask the car using Tamiya masking tape in order to paint some window trims etc. To my surprise, after removing the tape after 15 minutes after painting, my perfect, almost glass like finish was RUINED by masking tape. This happened after a WEEK of leaving the clear-coated car to cure. I mixed my clear coat with ca. 40:60 GX-100 to thinner ratio. That leaves a short, but a very important question - how long does it take for GX-100 to FULLY cure, so I can touch it, press fingers or use a masking tape and not risking ruining my whole work? I've read countless posts and threads about various methods used and the people are always like "whaaat you waited 3 days? man, I wet sand it a couple hours later" etc. I once had a terrible experience with Tamiya X-22 clear coat, which i left for TWO WEEKS to cure only to discover, that lightly pressing a finger against the body destroys the surface.. and I also read posts about people handling the car on the next day with no problems using the same paints/thinners as I did. I also painted another car, which didn't require any extra work after clear coating (here I used GX-100) and after 5 days I started to assemble the car, only to discover that I still leave fingerprints in the places, where I had to press more firmly.. I find it extremely infuriating, because I am a patient guy who has no problem with leaving my work for later, or leaving a car body for a couple of days to dry/cure without touching it, but it's starting to get annoying when you are forced to leave your work for twice as long or even longer before you can think of touching the car without ruining it.. Any help is appreciated. I know the text became longer than it should, but I am now currently helpless, because I enjoy building cars, but I have no idea how long should I wait before handling my clear-coated cars without worrying that every touch or a bit of pressure can destroy my cars which were left untouched for a week. Thank you, W.
