  1. Here's today's haul: Resin casting kit Krylon rose gold spray paint Testors brass Metalizer paint 2 pair forceps Testors thinner Extreme power thin CA glue Pocket razor knife Hobby tools cutting mat 12 pc needle files Helping hands magnifying glass
  2. Today I got in my Monza 2+2 model, I am going to use this kit to cast resin pieces to kit bash another model I already have. Kit ended up at around 30-40$ on eBay: crazy prices for model car stuff these days.
  3. Yeah thanks straightliner, I'm up in the air on what I want to make my molds out of while I'm waiting on the kit. I have a few options from really cheap, to high dollar. It's really gonna come down to what I got money wise and how bad I wanna get that frame cast. Definitely ready to get into it now though, may be an engine project or two with the resin too once I get the frame done ??
  4. Yeah I think I'm gonna practice making resin parts when my 2+2 kit gets here, I want to make the full AMT chassis in resin and only part of my MPC plate in resin then combine them to fit the 72 Vega body, will do the frame chop on a resin mock up as well as a resin drive shaft mock chop. I don't want to give to much away on the build up want to put it on the WIP board.
  5. Gseeds send me a mail on here man I'd like to commission some art work and see what your prices are.
  6. Price on some stuff:rediculous, waiting for good stuff to come along: an eternity, molding your own: priceless
  7. Thanks again straightliner, it's appreciated. Now more people will understand this topic. The other thing to shortening that frame would be to shorten the drive shaft just a little. Would be interested in seeing someone do a cosworth Vega that would be interesting. I'm still on the fence on how much I want to spend on an AMT piece. I can't believe the price of kits these days, I used to buy these things at Walmart, k&b, and eckards for 8-10$. Even ebay is asking alot.
  8. Ouch, wish someone would do some of the obscure stuff man, it's a drag when you wanna build something and ain't got the stuff you want.
  9. The old Buick specials to 64 had the 215/300s and the wildcats small blocks were 340s right?
  10. What is the best kit to get a modern Buick small block (350) and non turboed buick V6 from? Any of the buick kits com with a standard tranny?
  11. Thanks guys, glad to be goin back to my roots miss the scale model scene
  12. I am intending on mixing and matching for this project, I get that all the olds history is cobbled up, I'm a huge bop fan. I'm interested in old style olds 330/350 valve covers, intakes, and kits that have a standard transmission for sure. So any 64+ kit would have the old style low rise valve covers? Which kits other than the 72 have the standard trans in em?
  13. Straightliner: can you post a single pic of the AMT Monza frame by itself and then a single pic of the MPC Monza frame by itself. I already know the difference but it might help others understand where the pieces com from better. ??‍♂️
  14. Ok so then what about the 330 with a standard tranny
  15. What kits have a good or excellent replication of an Olds 350 from the 70's as well as speed parts ie: Edelbrock intake or headers as well as a 3 or 4 speed stick trans like the old 3spd Saginaw or Muncie rock crusher?
  16. Well just the way it is, a good modded frame cast in resin would be nice to produce for people wanting to street an early prostock Vega body, kit bashing frames may be something I could pull off later, I'm still debating a glue bomb or fresh kit, a quick look on eBay hasn't landed me any glue bombs only over priced kits and a guy selling a kit box top for over $20, sad really.
  17. Those look like steel Pontiac or Buick ralleys done in resin
  18. Straightliner I am inclined to think that your front sway bar area may not need to be modified if it is tucked behind the front facia first and the rear set in, looks like minimal shaping otherwise looks like the wheels are pretty much inline in the front other wise a pan chop before the seat dimples but behind the trans cross member could be just enough to do justice, at least my pieces of grumpy lump will be fitted to the Monza frame to better fit my body. I saw a proposed 73 Vega kit coming out somewhere, Lawson's I believe that would be a true 73 tube job frame I would hope, there was some guys over on the Vega pinto post talking about a 73 Vega kit at some point to that was produced way way back but I don't think it was an AMT kit
  19. Straightliner that's a good comparison, do you know what AMT kit that Monza is from my grumpys lump has a cell dead center of the rear pan and a tubbed out rear interior pan, your Vega chassis looks like a stocker too. Thanks for the photos. This is the MPC lump I'm looking to replace with the Monza chassis so the info your sharing is quite appreciated.
  20. I plan on getting a fresh 2+2 kit soon, when I get what I want from it, some of my grumpys stuff and the Monza body/ stuff will probably go up for trade. Look forward to seeing that comparison straightliner
  21. Gets me wondering: all the bodies widths in 1:1 are pretty much the same, it's the length that varies. Does that affect the 1:25 length as well? And for the record 1971 - 1974 Vegas were first generation all subsequent years used the longer lower for the polyurethane front areas. Wonder how much material needs to be removed from the 2+2 kit? Anybody with pics for comparison: 72 grumpys lump and the 2+2 frame?
  22. So to clarify this, what AMT Monza are we looking for the '77 2+2 kit, or is there other years to look for, I'm seeing quite a few Monza kits running around?
  23. Guess I'm gonna have to go to the chopping block the MPC kits rear end and lower floor pan are hideous, and the way the axle mounts in is just not well designed at all, I miss the kits I grew up with in the mid 90's. Separate rear ends, drive shafts. Was hoping there was a kit with a better assembly out there.
  24. 37, from LA living in VT, Just getting back into the hobby again after 5 years. Current project, MPC 72 Vega - not being built to box specs but modeled as if I owned it. Hi everyone in model land, look forward to chatting model with you guys and learning some tips and regaining the ones I've lost. Happy Building......?
  25. I just bought the grumpys toy Vega, I'm not happy with the lump subframe assembly. Is there a donor kit that has a better assembly or one that is a better mod?
