I just cut the doors out of and AMT PETERBUILT 359 cab so I can hinge them . I also purchaced a set of MCG-2204 PHOTO-ETCHED Piano Hinges to use on the doors because I noticed a lot of people use them. A lot of people say they really look and work good but they are tricky to bend, etc. and they take a lot of patience. I have searched the web looking for tutorials on how to use them and for tips and tricks on using them but I can't find anything. Does anybody have any tips etc. on how to bend and intsall them ? Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Keith

FINALLY FINISHED R MODEL WRECKER
JARRNO88 replied to JARRNO88's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks everyone. Glad you all like it. JARRNO88 -
It took me about two years to build but I finally completed it. I used the AMT R685 MACK kit , The wrecker from the AMT 359 wrecker kit . I extended the frame, narrowed the wrecker body a good bit to make it the same width as the rear wheels. I also collected alot of photos and other info off the web and did most of all the plumbing on the engine and chassis. I am now starting to build the 359 from the wrecker kit and the REVELL PETERBUILT 359 snap kit to build A 1980 PETE 359. I am going to try to complete the PETE 359 in less time than it took me to build the wrecker, JARRNO88

SLEEPER INFO NEEDED
JARRNO88 replied to JARRNO88's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
THANKS FOR THE INFO. I NOW HAVE THE INFORMATION I NEED SO I CAN HAVE THE RIGHT SLEEPER ON THE TUCK. -
I JUST STARTED BUILDING A AMT PETERBUILT 359 FROM THE #8126 WRECKER KIT. I FOUND A BUNCH OF INFORMATION ON "TIMS TRUCKS" ABOUT USING A NUMBER OF ITEMS FROM THE REVELL USA PETERBUILT 359 SNAP KIT ON THE AMT PETE TO MAKE IT INTO A PRETTY ACCURATE 1980 359 . I DID'NT SEE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT MAKING CHANGES ETC. TO THE SLEEPER THAT CAME IN THE AMT KIT BUT I CAN REMEMBER READING THINGS IN THE PAST ABOUT THE AMT SLEEPER NOT BEING CORRECT AND THE REVELL SNAP KIT SLEEPER WAS ALOT BETTER BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE I HAD SEEN THAT INFORMATION AT. DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANTHING ABOUT THE REVELL SNAP KIT SLEEPER BEING THE BETTER ONE TO USE , AND IF IT NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED ANY TO MAKE IT CORRECT FOR A 1980 359 ? THANKS, JARRNO88

Paint chrome parts to look like shiny gold?
JARRNO88 replied to treadhead's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try out furnature touch up markers. I purchaced a set at my local building supply for just a couple of dollars and have used them for gold toning chrome parts. You can put more than one coat on to darken the tone and with a set you can choose what type of tint you want. In the set I have the light oak makes the chrome look like gold and the darker ones make the chrome look like brass. Keith -
Do You Get Into the Modeling Doldrums...?
JARRNO88 replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can totally relate to what everyone is talking about. I am now in some sort of burnout or whatever you call it. About 1 1/2 years ago I started building A R model MACK custom heavy duty wrecker, did plenty of scratchbuilding on it , painted the chassis and some other odds and ends on it right before Christmas and since then I have not worked on it very much at all. My body parts are all primed and ready to airbrush and then my final assembally. For the last month I have spent quite a few hours on the web doing allk kinds of research for my next truck model and I am now all ready to start my next build but I am going to finish the MACK before I begin it . I somehow need to get motivated again and complete it, Keith -

JARRNO88 replied to JARRNO88's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I FOUND OUT WHERE THE TWO LINES HOOK UP TO FROM FROM A POST SOMEONE MADE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. KEITH -
I am getting ready to build A 359 Peterbuilt with A 3406 CAT in it and am planning to do a little extra plumbing on it. What I need to find out is how to hook up the Luberfiner. If anyone has and extra second could you tell me how many lines I need to run and where they hook up to etc. Thanks, Keith

How do you organize your spare parts?
JARRNO88 replied to steve7119's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I am really bad at keeping any extra or spare parts in order. Most of them are all in a box marked "SPARE MODEL PARTS". The only parts that I have organized are for a project that I am building at the time. -

Does anybody know of a good place that I can purchace 1/25 scale plastic or resin wheels and hubs that I can use on the AMT 359? Thanks, Keith

JARRNO88 replied to pete3522's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I just cut the doors out of and AMT 359 cab and I also purchaced a set of MCG-2204 hinges. I read that they are tricky to use but are really nice hinges. If anyone that has used them before can give me any tips about them that the instructions don't mension, please let me know. I want to try to bend them and install the doors without messing anything up. Thanks -
Bench Rage! Have you ever lost it?
JARRNO88 replied to Chillyb1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Last night I had a bad case of Bench Rage. I was working on a Semi Truck model that I have put alot of detail work and time into, I have about 2 years building time into it and I had just finished painting it about 1 week ago and started doing some assembally work last night. For about three hours straight everything I tried to do went wrong and some paint got messed up, some parts broken etc. I did alot of yelling and cussing and felt like smashing the model.Thank GOD I never did. My wife does'nt understand why I was getting so upset and says that I was acting like a little baby. I finally walked away from my workbench for a good while and after I cooled off I went and fixed some of the things that I messed up. I decided to take tonight off from model building. Keith -
I spend quite alot of time on my builds and it gets my wife really mad. She says that I love my models more than her ! I usually spend three or four nights a week working on my project. I build semi trucks and I make plenty of changes to the model from box stock. I am now building a early 70's MACK WRECKER and I am plumbing the chassis with all the air lines for the brake system , highly detailing the engine and making alot of other modifications to the model trying to make it look as realistic as possible. Besdes the building time I have spent quite alot of hours online searching for photos etc. so I can make my details and paint colors correct. I started te model about 1 and 1/2 years ago and I think I will have it complete in about 6 more months .

I am getting ready to do my first airbrush paintjob on a AMT R685St that I am building. I am planning on doing a two tone paintjob using Tamiya flat acrylics then gloss clearcoat . I was thinking about using a liquid mask to mask out my second color. I just need to find out what brand of liquid mask is the best to use and if it will work fine over acrylic paints. Has anyone out there have any experience using it, and what brand of liquid mask I should use? Keith

Has anyone found any good underhood photos of a Lonestar with a MaxxForce 15 engine yet ? I imagine there are probably alot of people besides myself searching the web now for good MaxxForce 15 photos since we are starting to get our LoneStar kits. I will post any good web sites or photos if I find them, Keith
